REFLECTION OF THE WEEK October 13, 2019 • 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Gospel SummaryJesus healed ten lepers in today’s Gospel, but only one (an unlikely one, at that!) came back to thank Jesus and give praise to God. Jesus wondered where the others were and why they didn’t think to praise God for their healing.Bringing the Gospel into Your FamilyCarey Landry and Carol Jean Kinghorn offer us a lively song thanking God for making us who we are. Most Christian book stores or religious educators have a copy of “Hi God 2” where you can find the song, “If I Were a Butterfly.” Try making up lively hand motions or dance steps to this song as you teach your child the words and movements. Tell your children what things you are grateful for.Discussion StartersI should have thanked . . .I felt appreciated when . . .I’m especially thankful to God for . . .Questions of the Week
Adults: Whose generosity do you tend to take for granted? How will you change this?Children: When have you failed to say thank you? Why does this matter?
Refl ection and questions from RCL Benziger. http://rclblectionary.com
Niños: ¿Cuándo has fallado en decir gracias? ¿Por qué es importante hacerlo?
We received a notice from our Diocesan Offi ce regarding TEXT MESSAGE SCAMS.They have asked that we let you know they have received reports of parishioners receiving texts, allegedly from their pastor or administrator, asking for money or for a return text. Fr. Kelly had written about this a few months back, but we want to remind you that this is a scam. We will not use text messaging to ask for money, or ask you to reply to the text. So, even if it looks like the text is coming from our parish priests or staff, PLEASE DO NOT REPLY.

Ways to grow your children in faith while at the store. (This continued series is from Making Faith Fun by Amy Viets, ACTA Publishing). While you wait. (This next series is ideas for all those times of waiting – in
line at the grocery store, in the waiting room at the doctor’s office, at sports practice…)
Your child’s bag of tricks – older children don’t need a diaper bag but you might find a small backpack with instant activities to be helpful. Include some that are faith based, like a non breakable Noah’s ark set or nativity scene, or Bible storybooks. You can take turns telling each other the story using the props.
We do not meet for FFF today. This Sunday is our first of six retreats for children in their second year of preparation for First Eucharist. We meet at 10 am in the parish hall.Hoy no tenemos clases.

Words of Wisdom“Nothing is as strong as gentleness; nothing is so
gentle as real strength.”This is a quiet time for us. Soon we will prepare for Advent and the Christmas season. There have been a few changes in our book room. It is brighter, more open and welcoming. We invite you to come in and browse. We will be expanding our special selection of children’s books for Christmas. These are timeless and will appeal to the child in all of us. The shop will be brimming with many wonderful choices. Our commitment to Fair Trade is also ongoing. As always there is no shortage of whimsical nativity scenes. These are very popular all year round. Our ceramic folk art from Peru has been doing very well. We have added a nice representation of Day of the Dead. The artisans take pride in sharing their unique art and culture. Many collectors are impressed with our eclectic mix of handcrafted gifts. If you are traveling we hope you will enjoy your visit to our beautiful Mission. We are open 7 days a week, from 9-5. Our store hours change on November 3, 2019 when we will be open from 9-4 pm. Our staff is friendly and happy to be of service. We look forward to seeing you.

Meeting report: The Holy Spirit was present and active at our Social Justice meeting 10/1. We now have a name for our new project,
“Open Hearts, Helping Hands”. Our goal will be providing loving outreach to members of our parish community who might be in need of small acts of assistance. We will be seeking both parishioners in need and volunteers to meet those needs. We will do this by word of mouth, publicity in our bulletin and through information cards available soon at the masses. We believe we are being called to encourage community through loving service.
Opening Doors Of Faith: Next gathering Oct. 14th @ 7:30 PM @ Congregation Beth David. Dr. Hisham Assal, Rabbi Jayne Simon and Rev. Jim Nisbet will be sharing.
