Rose Hill Center, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Dan and Rosemary Kelly. During the next three years, the newly created nonprofit organization was able to purchase a farm in northern Oakland County, build the campus, and develop a treatment and rehabilitation program for adults with serious mental illness. After three years of planning, fundraising, and construction, Rose Hill Center welcomed its first residents in May, 1992.
MISSIONTo provide highly effective and sustainable therapeutic programs for adults with mental illness, and associated disorders, which enable them to manage their symptoms and lead fulfilling lives.
VISIONTo be known as the best treatment community for adults with mental illness by implementing effective and innovative treatment and therapy to foster growth and lasting recovery.
MENTAL HEALTH SERVICESLocated on 412 acres, Rose Hill Center is a residential treatment and rehabilitation facility for adults with a primary diagnosis of serious mental illness. ABOUT ROSE HILL
Community Report 2019 | 1
DEAR FRIENDS,I am especially pleased to write this - my final letter to the Rose Hill Community. It is a bittersweet time for me as I prepare for my retirement in July 2019, and face the fact that I will no longer be working day in and day out for this organization that I value so much.
It seems like just yesterday when, as a graduate student at the University of Michigan, I was “out to change the world”. What followed was 45 years of service to those who suffer the effects of mental illness and many other life challenges. Starting as a crisis line counselor at the University of Michigan Office of Student Services - and now finishing my career as president and CEO of Rose Hill Center, I look back fondly on all of the many amazing people I have had the pleasure to work with and learn from!
I have worked with so many caring individuals over the years, it would be impossible to name them all. I am particularly lucky to have worked with professionals at Rose Hill who take their jobs (but not themselves) seriously. It has been a pleasure knowing that my team and our services are running smoothly. All of this is only possible as a result of the devotion and leadership of our founders Dan and Rosemary Kelly, and our many dedicated board members. Part of working with people you like and trust is the camaraderie that helps everyone feel supported.
A big part of my job has been working with our amazing donors and volunteers, having successfully raised over $1 million annually! Without the support of these caring and hard working individuals, Rose Hill would not be such an amazing organization. From the board members who give so tirelessly of their time to help Rose Hill reach its goals, to the ladies who visit the campus each year to prepare it for the holidays, I will miss each and every one.
We have accomplished so many projects, big and small, since I started at Rose Hill. The construction of the visitor’s center, opening the co-occurring mental illness services, expanding services to include autism spectrum disorder, introducing Radically Open DBT services and trauma informed care are some of the initiatives of which I am most proud. I feel a sense of gratitude to the many individuals and Foundations that have supported us in these initiatives, and the staff who have carried them out.
Most of all, I will miss our residents and their families – past and present. Chatting with residents at lunch each day has continued to be a high point in my schedule. Hearing news from families, sometimes years after their loved one has graduated from the program has brought me joy. The kind notes and letters from former residents, that always seem to arrive just when I needed some encouragement, have kept me focused on our many accomplishments at Rose Hill.
It is always difficult to say goodbye, but please know that you will all stay in my heart. Fond memories of the many spring flower fairs (usually raining), and Golf Invitationals (usually sunny) will be with me forever. I look forward to receiving future newsletters, annual reports and e-news updates. It is truly difficult to believe that these 12 years at Rose Hill and 45 years of work has flown by so fast.
God bless all of you for your interest, dedication and support!Sincerely,
Ben Y. Robinson, President & CEO

FRIENDS and SUPPORTERS OF ROSE HILL,We are very proud of the work that is being accomplished at Rose Hill Center and are deeply grateful for the contributions from so many individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations that partner with Rose Hill. Without the support of so many, it would be all but impossible to fulfill our mission. When you support Rose Hill Center you help to provide a solid therapeutic foundation that is intended to help residents graduate from services and continue to thrive at their highest level of independence. Your assistance helps them live healthier lives and obtain the tools they need to break the cycle of relapse.
Throughout the 2018 Community Report you will read statistics about our programs, our residents, our donors, and our governance. What we really want you to see is how the lives of Rose Hill’s many residents and families were changed through the collective treatment and support of our community. Because that is what Rose Hill is, a community, dedicated to helping individuals with mental illness learn to manage their symptoms and go on to lead rewarding lives.
Rose Hill’s effectiveness is largely due to the wonderful employees that give tirelessly each day to help each resident achieve their goals. We understand when employees leave that they too have goals to achieve. It is therefore, with great sadness and gratitude that we are now parting with one of our most impactful employees, Ben Robinson, President and CEO for the past 12 years. Ben will be retiring in mid July and we wish him only the best as he starts this new chapter in his life with new goals of his own. We know that he will remain a good friend and supporter of the Rose Hill’s vision and purpose. Please know that this change in leadership has been well planned, and we are well on our way to completing a search for Ben’s successor.
Because of you, Rose Hill Center is able to provide effective services through a host of treatment modalities that impact our residents and their families. On behalf of the Board of Directors, and staff we wholeheartedly express our gratitude for all that YOU do to make a real difference. Whether you are one of our many financial supporters, give through your volunteerism at Rose Hill events, or participate by spreading the word, YOU are a large (and important!) part of the change that we are creating in the lives of so many.
We want to thank each of Rose Hill Center’s many supporters across the country who have combined their resources and stepped forward like never before to create lasting recovery in the lives of our residents through innovative and effective treatment.
We are truly grateful for your generosity, your interest, and your understanding of the needs of people with mental illness. Thus, it is on their behalf that we again thank you.
With warmest regards,
Dan and Rosemary Kelly, Founders

OUTCOME MEASURESEach year, the success of Rose Hill Centers’ treatment program can be seen in the lives of the residents who return to their families and communities. We have verified this through outcomes measures and assessments which have consistently shown an improvement in our residents’ functioning and a decrease in psychiatric symptoms. Rose Hill utilizes the Daily Living Activities – 20 (DLA-20), a research-based outcomes measurement tool which measures twenty items of functionality. The DLA-20 is measured at admission, quarterly, during transfer to another Rose Hill program level, and at discharge. In 2018, the DLA-20 scores of residents who completed the entire continuum of care show the greatest increase.
