MissionoftheSETGyCThe Spanish Society for Gene and Cell Therapy (SETGyC) is a platform that aims to promote andsupport fundamental, translational and clinical research in these areas, as well as collaboration withinstitutions, biotechnological and pharmaceutical companies for development of new therapies. Thecomplexity of these studies often requires a multidisciplinary approach and our Society is an idealforum to find colleagues with whom to share knowledge and procedures for the development of new, more effective and safe therapies as well as good practice in gene and cell therapy products and inthe clinical application of these products.
Many of the teams that have implemented clinical trials on advanced therapies are members of theSETGyC, which aims to facilitate the translation of fundamental research to medical applicationscomplying with European regulations for cell therapy and gene therapy, to advise on these aspectsand to defend the good practice in cell production and in clinical application of cellular products.
Our congress is the opportunity for all the people involved in the Society (researchers, clinicians, industry and government representatives) to meet. For students in particular, this is a great chance topresent their work, exchange knowledge and form collaborations, all of which are very important fortheir training. In the last few years, Society meetings have taken place in Madrid (2007), Granada(2009), Zaragoza (2011), Madrid (2013), the latter in partnership with the annual meeting ofthe European Society of Gene and Cell Therapy (ESGCT) and San Sebastian (2015)
Biennial Congress
• To boost the profile of gene and cell therapy inSpain and internationally• To facilitate communication and exchange ofexpertise and resources between professionals• To provide advice and advocacy in all themesrelating to new and existing gene and celltherapies
• Spain is one of the leading countries in Europewith regard to the number of sponsors ofadvanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs),which are mainly not-for-profit institutions. It isalso a leader in the number of ATMPs undergoingclinical development programs.
