Mission Impossible USB - 2nd Edition.pdf

Hi Everyone,

I received almost 600 emails so far since my last post about this subject, and

due to many demands from friends, colleagues, forums everywhere, this tutorial

will be for making an updated “Mission Impossible” USB, that mixes some of

my tutorials together, specially to include Windows XP and Windows 7 setup

files and Kaspersky latest 2011 Rescue CD into project “USB - IMPOSSIBLE”

and updating the rest of the software already there in the first tutorial.

I suppose it will be suitable and more than enough probably for more than 90%

of (starter/medium/advanced) everyday computer users, as well as IT pros and

IT security pros, where they can use in their daily routine, practicing all types of

computer diagnose/repair/security, etc...

I figured making project “USB- Impossible” with the most important software

needed(the way I assume it’s enough) but of course suggestions from readers,

friends, and colleagues to add more items to this project are always more than

welcome if they feel the need to add more.

This USB Impossible Tutorial will be of 5 parts, where part 1 and 2 are for

making a bootable USB that includes (Windows XP and Windows 7 setup files,

BackTrack 3 & 4 final, Live Hacking CD 1.1,Ophcrack XP & Vista--mixed in 1,

Ultimate Boot CD 5.0.2, latest Hiren’s Boot CD 10.6, Linux Mint 9 Isadora DVD

edition, Ubuntu 10.4 netbook edition &rescue remix, YLMF 3.0,dban 2.2.6, latest

parted magic 4.11, partition wizard 5.0,Macrium reflect rescue CD 4.2.2525, AVG

9 rescue CD, BitDefender 2010 Rescue CD, konboot 1.1) and part 3 is for

portable applications like (Portable Apps and LiberKey Ultimate, and part 4 will

be of using virtual desktops, simulating Windows OS, using software like

Mojopack and Prayaya, while the last part (part 5) will be about Installing and

using your very own Windows XP, Vista, and 7 on USB and using it as portable

OS from "portable Virtual Box" with its last version 3,2,6.

Tutorial – Part - 1 1- We will start first by preparing the USB to have Windows XP and Windows 7 setup files,

so that you can use the USB thumb drive to install Windows XP or Windows 7 on any pc

you want instead of using CD or DVD setup media. So get your Windows XP setup CD

and Windows 7 setup DVD ready, because we will use them in the next steps.

2- You need a Windows based PC to work with this tutorial, and turn off “UAC” user

account control completely and reboot your PC before executing everything with

elevated privileges “Run as administrator” if you are working from Windows Vista or 7.

3- You need a clean and empty 16 GB or better USB 2.0 or better thumb drive.

4- Download the following files from HERE and extract them with WinRar or equivalent to

separate folders onto your desktop:

- WinSetupFromUSB-Modified.rar

- MI2USB.rar

5- Open folder (WinSetupFromUSB-Modified) and right click on WinSetupFromUSB_0-2-

3.exe and choose to “Run as administrator” if you are working from Windows Vista or

7, you should see the following, press OK:

6- Make sure you follow what you see below before you press the “RMPrepUSB” button:

7- RMPREPUSB v.2.0.811 tool will pop up, so make sure everything is just like what you see

below before you press the “Prepare Drive” button:

8- Press “ OK “ on the next screen:

9- Also press “ OK “ on the next screen :

10- After operation completed, press “EXIT” button:

11- Now insert Windows XP setup CD into CDROM drive bay and follow below, note that

your drive letter may be different than mine (H):

12- Now Windows XP setup files are ready in the USB thumb drive, and it’s time to do the

same with Windows 7 setup files, so go ahead and remove the Windows XP setup CD

from the drive and Insert the Windows 7 setup DVD in the drive bay, and follow:

13- Now OPEN folder (MI2USB) that you extracted from the downloads in step 4 above and

copy all of its contents to the USB thumb drive, and replace the existing files in the USB :

14- Make sure the files in the USB thumb drive are Identical to this:

Tutorial – Part - 2 1- Download (BackTrack 3 Final release) ISO image (728 MB) and (BackTrack 4 Final

Release) ISO image (1570 MB) (1.46 GB) from HERE and Extract the ISO images to

separate folders onto your desktop.

2- Download the latest (Live Hacking CD 1.1) from HERE to your desktop. Make sure

you accept the license agreement and input the user name and password you will

be asked for so you can download the needed file:

User Name: cd

Password: password

When you are on the download page make sure you choose the latest 1.1 full version of

27 April 2010, and click on the download link under the server (2) Where the ISO image

is there, because the download link under the server (1) is for the zip file which we do

not need in this tutorial.

So when you click on the download link under server (2) you will be asked to input the

user name and password I mentioned above, the ISO file is 689 MB.

4- Download (Ophcrack XP Live CD 2.3.1) ISO image (415 MB) and (Ophcrack Vista Live

CD 2.3.1) ISO image (496 MB) from HERE and Extract the ISO images to separate

folders onto your desktop.

5- Download (Ultimate Boot CD v5.0.2) ISO image (291MB) from HERE to your desktop.

6- Download (Hiren’s Boot CD 10.6) ISO image (271 MB) from HERE and Extract the ISO

image to a separate folder onto your desktop.

7- Download (Linux Mint 9 “Isadora”-Gnome DVD-32-bit) (763 MB) from HERE . 8- Download (Ubuntu 10.04 Netbook Edition) (699 MB) from HERE . 9- Download (YLMF 3.0 Final) (676 MB) from HERE . 10- Download (Ubuntu 10.04 Rescue Remix) (177 MB) from HERE . 11- Download (DBAN 2.2.6) ISO image (10.3 MB) from HERE . 12- Download (Parted Magic 4.11) Zipped ISO image (93.5 MB) from HERE to your

desktop and Extract the Zip file to get the ISO image which is (94.3 MB).

13- Download (Partition Wizard 5.0) ISO image (39 MB) from HERE .

14- Download (Macrium Reflect Rescue CD 4.2.2525) Free Edition ISO image (7.78 MB)

from HERE .

15- Download the latest (AVG 9 Rescue CD) ISO image (77 MB) from HERE to your

desktop and RENAME the ISO image into (AVG.iso).

16- Download the latest (BitDefender Rescue CD) ISO image (273 MB) from HERE to

your desktop and RENAME the ISO image into (bitdefender.iso), after that Extract

the ISO image to a separate folder onto your desktop.

17- Download (KonBoot) file from HERE to your desktop, and Extract the file to a folder

onto your desktop.

18- Now I want you to copy all the following ISO images to the USB thumb drive:

- (AVG.iso + bitdefender.iso + dban-2.2.6_i586.iso + linuxmint-9-gnome-dvd-i386.iso +

livehackingcd_V1-1_full.iso + MacriumReflectRescue.iso + pmagic-4.11.iso + pwhe5.iso +

ubcd502.iso + ubuntu-10.04-netbook-i386.iso + ubuntu-rescue-remix-10-04.iso +

Ylmf_OS_3.0.iso).

- After you have done that, make sure the files in your thumb drive at this stage are

identical to what you see below:

19- Open folder (bt4-final) that you have extracted from the ISO image you downloaded

in step 1 above, and COPY all its contents to the USB thumb drive:

20- Open folder (bt3-final), that you have extracted from the ISO image you

downloaded early in step 1 above, you will see 2 folders (boot) + (BT3), I want you

to move folder (boot) into inside the folder (BT3):

- Now you have done the step above, I want you to move folder (BT3) to the USB thumb

drive:

21- Open folder (Hiren’s boot Cd 10.6) you have extracted from ISO image you

downloaded early in step 6 above, and COPY folder (HBCD) only to the USB thumb

drive:

22- In step 17 above I asked you to extract konboot.rar file to a folder on the desktop,

now I want you to copy folder (konboot) to the USB thumb drive.

23- In step 16 above I asked you to rename the BitDefender ISO image and to extract it

after renaming to a separate folder, now open that (bitdefender) folder , and COPY

folder (Docs) and folder (KNOPPIX) to the USB thumb drive:

24- In step 4 above I asked you to download Ophcrack XP and Ophcrack Vista ISO

images and to Extract them to separate folders onto your desktop, now I want you

to OPEN folder (ophcrack-vista-livecd-2.3.1) and navigate to inside folder (tables),

you will see a folder named (vista_free), I want you to copy/or move that folder to

inside the (tables) folder inside (Ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.3.1) folder as you see below:

-Now close both folders after you see results like this:

- After you’ve done the step above, open folder (Ophcrack-xp-livecd-2.3.1) and move all

its contents to the USB thumb drive, as picture below, and if asked to replace any

existing file or folder, then press “ agree or accept” wherever applicable and replace

that file or folder:

25- Download Kaspersky 2011 Rescue CD (189 MB) file from HERE and Extract the file to

a separate folder onto your desktop, after you’ve done that I want you to OPEN

folder (Kaspersky_2011_RescueCD) and copy all of its contents to the USB thumb

drive:

26- Now the USB thumb drive is ready to be booted and tested, so make sure the files

in the USB thumb drive are identical to what you see below:

27- When you will boot the USB thumb drive, you will see this screen:

- And when you scroll down the menu you will find more:

2 Important things you should know about before ending Part 2 of this tutorial:

1- Sometimes you find that from using the USB thumb drive, you notice that it is not

booting as usual, most probably the (grldr) file has been disappeared from your USB

thumb drive, so you need to download GRUB4DOS from HERE and follow:

- After you’ve done that copy (grldr) file from GRUB4DOS folder to the USB thumb drive

and this will make your USB boot again as normally would do.

2- One important problem issue you might encounter, and that is one of the ISO images is

not working, and while booting the USB thumb drive you would see “ERROR CODE 60”,

when you see this during booting, that means that specific ISO image inside the USB

thumb drive needs defragmenting, so you will need a program to defragment that ISO

image, One of the best to do this job is WINCONTIG that you can download from its

distribution Website or from HERE, and follow this example, so you will learn how to

defragment any ISO image in the future:

- Now we are done with PART 2 of the Tutorial, the next 3 parts are optional, and it’s

Tutorial – Part – 3 - In this part we are going to put some portable applications into the USB thumb

drive, so you can use them on any Windows PC. I am going to pick 2 of the most

famous portable applications for you to use in this part of the tutorial:

1- Portable apps 1.6.1 Suite Standard (137 MB), download it from HERE

2- LiberKey Ultimate 4.9 (214 MB), download it from HERE.

3- Now that you downloaded both files in steps 1 and 2, I want you to right click on

PortableApps.com_Suite_Setup_1.6.1_English.exe and choose to “Run as

administrator” if you are working from Windows Vista or 7 environment, and choose to

install into the USB thumb drive:

4- Now I want you to right click on LiberKey_Ultimate_4.9_EN.exe and choose to “Run as

administrator” if you are working from a Windows Vista or 7 environment, and choose

to install to your desktop:

5- After everything has finished installing and extracting, I want you to open folder

(LiberKey) from your desktop, then navigate to (Apps) folder, open it and Copy all of its

contents to inside (PortableApps) folder inside the USB thumb drive.

- The files inside the folder (PortableApps) now should be identical to this:

- Now we are done with PART 3 of this tutorial, when you right click on

StartPortableApps.exe icon inside the USB thumb drive, the portable apps will start

with something looks like this, enjoy!

Tutorial – Part – 4 - Since the USB flash drive has come to our life, new technologies based on flash disks

(which make our life easier) are improved continuously.

2 programs I know and I am going to talk about- are portable programs and

emulates the host’s computer operating system, and uses its resources- the first

program called “MOJOPACK” which I am using now for almost 6 years and it’s free,

the other one , I am introduced to recently is “Prayaya “ is not free.

- With those software which were created with “carry your computer in your pocket”

idea, you catch the chance to use your favorite programs, play games, and carry

your personal data in your pocket, and you have above all your very private

Windows operating system that does not get affected with viruses or Trojans from

the host pc, all your work and privacy is isolated from the host pc, means what

happens in those simulating Windows “Mojopack” or “Prayaya” stays into your USB,

and is not left behind on the host pc. It’s kind of virtual portable Windows OS you

carry in your USB. They provide a Windows simulation desktop on any USB drive, so

you tote around your operating system environment, including files and

applications, and then remove it from a host PC leaving no trace of your presence.

In this tutorial we are going first to use “MOJOPACK” because it’s free, then we will

give “Prayaya” also a try. So go ahead and download the “MOJOPACK” installer from

the link above, it’s a 21.6 MB in size to your desktop, and make sure you are

working from a Windows XP based pc, because “MOJOPACK” works only from XP,

and emulates the XP desktop. There is a Vista beta version that should work and

emulate Vista desktop also; personally I tried it from a Windows Vista based PC, but

didn’t work, you can test if you want (search Google for download). This is how

“Mojopack” desktop looks:

I will write down a quick comparison between “Mojopack” and “Prayaya” so you can decide

which one is best for you:

1- “MojoPack” is free, and there is a professional edition with more options of course,

while “Prayaya” is not free (49 $), but you can download a 30 day trial.

2- “Mojopack” works and emulates only Windows XP PCs, while “Prayaya” works and

emulates PCs with Windows 2000/XP/7. (it works on Vista also as I tested it)

3- “Mojopack” needs administrative rights, while “Prayaya” doesn’t need that, so it’s truly

portable.

4- “Mojopack” is very sleek in design, and it has a completely separate desktop and start

menu from the host pc, everything quite very good there, no errors, no hassle, while

“Prayaya” is not quite like that, especially when working from Windows Vista or 7, you

can see the start menu of the host pc and the programs there seems not to work, it is

not done right yet, and needs some time to develop a perfect atmosphere like the one

you see in “Mojopack”.

5- “Mojopack” accepted and installed almost every application I throw in it, and worked

fine and isolated from host pc, while “Prapaya” is still in the development steps, and not

everything is quite right yet.

That’s almost everything I had to say in this part of the tutorial, and of course you can

discover more while trying yourself those software.

Tutorial – Part – 5 Carry your own virtual full Windows XP or/and Vista or/and 7, with you in your USB

drive.

- In this last part of the tutorial we will talk briefly on how to install your Windows of

choice (XP/Vista/7) on your USB thumb drive using “Portable Virtual Box” and take

with you and use it on any pc. The procedure is very simple, you will need to use

“Portable Virtual Box” that you can download from HERE (65.7 MB), and prepare

your Windows CD or DVD or ISO image, to use it as the source installation media,

and if you have no idea about “Portable Virtual Box” then follow the demonstration

below, we will use only an example for Windows XP, because if we will use Windows

Vista or/and Windows 7, then we will need a USB drive larger than the 16 GB we are

working on with this tutorial:

1- After you download the “Portable Virtual Box”, extract it to a folder onto your

desktop.

2- Open folder (Portable-VirtualBox-3.2.6) and right click on “Portable-

VirtualBox.exe” and choose to “Run as administrator” if you are working from

Windows Vista or 7.

Now we finished installing Windows XP on the USB thumb drive from a Windows 7 pc using

“Portable Virtual Box”, you can install all your applications that you want and take the USB drive

with you and work with the virtual XP you just made on any Windows pc.

We tried this virtual XP on a different pc with a different Windows, it has Windows XP home

edition SP3, and as you see in the picture below, the Virtual Windows you just installed on the

USB works perfectly.
