Throughout a changing industrythe Endowment has remained focused onits mission and the Board of Trusteeswork diligently to be good stewards ofyour contributions.
The following pages demonstrate how yourgifts have strengthened the industry. Educational ProgramsJim Botsis Wholesaler’s Educational Program Sponsored an Education Session titled, “Strategies for Riding the Business Life Cycle” at theWF&FSA Convention.
Harold F. Wilkins Scholarship Program awarded two scholarships – Michael Schoen, University of Wisconsin and Brian Krug, North Carolina StateUniversity both performed internships at Ball Holland in the Netherlands.
Vic and Margaret Ball Internship Program awarded 10 internships and paid $28,000 in scholarships.
Mosmiller Scholar Program awarded 6 internships and paid $9,500 in scholarships.
2004 National Floriculture Forum Grant.
2004 National Intercollegiate Floriculture Judging Competition.
SAF Pest Management Conference Grant.
National FFA Foundation Grant – Floriculture Career Development Event Sponsor.
SAF Career Booth at the National FFA Convention.
IR-4 Ornamental Workshop to Prioritize Pest Control Research.
Scientific Research ProgramBoard of Trustees Meetings – The Trustees combined their Semi-Annual Board Meetings with a site visit to Cornell’s Long Island HorticulturalResearch and Extension Center in Riverhead and attended the SAF Pest Management Conference in San Jose, California. This allowed them to reviewongoing Scientific Research Programs.
The Pre-Proposal and Full Proposal Process – The entire process to receive, review, and fund new full research proposals was revised andstreamlined. It is now possible for scientists to submit a pre-proposal and be informed of the acceptance of a full proposal in less than a year.
Special Research Reports - 29 Special Research Reports were printed and distributed. The Reports are also available on the Endowment website www.endowment.org.
Progress Reports - 7 were printed and distributed.
www.flora-links.org - Five new categories were added bringing the total to 34. The site receives over 1500 hits per month.
Sponsored Gordon Conference on Plant Senescence and Programmed Cell Death.
Floriculture Consumer Statistical Marketing StudyNational, Regional, State and Metropolitan Reports sold to the industry highlighting consumer trends over the past 11 years.
FundraisingSingle year contributions totaled over $400,000.
Asocolflores $100,000 contribution for Scientific Research Projects.
$35,000 raised through the FTD District Solicitations through the Extra Touch Association.
National Phone-A-Thon completes year four of a five-year program, with a collection rate over 70%.
Endowment Dinner was held at the Boca Raton Resort & Club in Boca Raton, Florida and raised over $39,000.
Tributes are available to honor individuals, families and companies.Tributes provide a tangible way of expressing care, saying thank youfor a friendship, or acknowledging a customer. A minimumcontribution to the Endowment of $1,000 is required to establisha tribute. Once established, additional contributions in any amountmay be received. The family or corporate entity is always notified.
The end of the fiscal year 2003-2004 marks a special milestone forAmerican Floral Endowment contributors.
