Miranda Rose Lindenberg Bone Marrow Screening and Replenishment Blood Drive After a high fever that lasted four days and trips to the pediatrician and the ER, Miranda Rose Lindenberg, 4 months, underwent blood work that showed she had significantly low blood counts. She received transfusions of multiple units of platelets. The low blood counts, and an enlarged liver and spleen, provided the diagnosis: hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis. More commonly referred to as HLH, it is a blood cancer where normal cells in the immune system destroy other blood cells. Treatment includes aggressive rounds of chemotherapy, steroids, and other drugs. Miranda will also require a bone marrow transplant. Miranda is the daughter of Steve and Kelly Lindenberg, of Murrysville. Steve works for Westinghouse at Waltz Mill, and Kelly is graduating from Duquesne University and is a faculty member at Slippery Rock University. Miranda’s older sister Kaylen, 4, attends Rainbow Connection Early Development Center in Murrysville. Miranda is the granddaughter of Earl Ray and Gayle Lindenberg of Murrysville, Karen Stinelli of Delmont and David and Donna Stinelli of Penn Hills. This special blood drive is scheduled in honor of Miranda to help replenish the community blood supply from which Miranda has used and will continue to use during her treatment. Anyone donating blood at the drive may also elect to join the Be The Match SM Registry, the National Marrow Donor Program, free of charge, simply by completing additional paperwork and submitting a sample mouth swab. Please donate blood in honor of Miranda. Central Blood Bank is the not-for-profit organization that supplies the blood products and transfusion-related ser- vices to more than 40 hospitals in western Pennsylvania, northern West Virginia, and eastern Ohio.
