The CDC recommends that

Happy New Year! I hope 2014 finds you in good

health and good spirits. As you probably already know,

the first MMTC meeting of the

New Year will be on Monday,

January 6th @ 7:00 PM in the

Mira Mesa Senior Center. 2014 holds great promise for

us all. The Primary Election to

select a new council member

for our 6th San Diego City

Council District will take place

June 3, with the General Elec-

tion November 4, and for the

first time Mira Mesa will play a

huge role in this decision. The

candidates regularly attend

MMTC meetings, so make sure

you meet them and ask all the

questions you can think of.

Before the election, the MMTC

meetings will host a special

‘candidate’s forum’ in which

you will be able to speak with

the candidates. Our forums are very carefully orchestrated to

ensure each candidate answers

each question. This allows the

audience to contrast their an-

swers and decide which one is

the stronger candidate for our

community. Until then, there are a num-

ber of Mira Mesa events you

might enjoy. As I write this,

our Mira Mesa Youth Football

and Cheer Junior Midget Team

are competing in Florida out of

the two hundred plus teams

for a National Championship. I

hope they do well. Baseball season is just around

the corner with both the Little

League and Youth Baseball

starting tryouts in March.

Youth sports are a major part

of life in Mira Mesa and are

very important to us all. We will start preparing once

again for the 4th of July Celebra-

tion. And of course the big

challenge will once again be

funding the fireworks. And

while the big draw is the fire-

works, don’t forget the Family

Fun Day in the park. MM Street Fair planning be-

gins in April for our September

event which is Mira Mesa’s

annual premier community

event. The Street Fair commit-

tee welcomes new volunteers. One last thought for the

New Year; MMTC is a fantastic

organization. Members get all

sorts of benefits from their

membership, but we could do

so much more if more people

would join in. Please spread the

word to your neighbors and

friends.

See you at the meeting on

Monday January 6th.

Update: The game in Florida is

over and the boys won by a

score of 44 to 13, however due

to a loss during the first game,

our San Diego Mira Mesa Jun-

ior Midget Charger boys are

number three in the nation!

The Junior Midget level is com-

prised of boys in the 7th grade

(about 12 years old). The old-

est level in the league is 8th

grade, so these same boys will

be together one more year .

Way to Go Junior Chargers!

- Steven Hadley for Mayor Todd Gloria. Distributed the

Mayor’s newsletter. City de-

partments have operated as

independent “silos” with little

communication with each oth-

Mayoral candidates are weigh-

ing in on appointments. —

Question – what is City doing

about Centennial celebration in

Balboa Park? Mr. Hadley

claims that in general, the

event is not City funded and is

looking for sponsors. So far,

not enough money to do the

kind of celebration from 100

years ago since there were only

40,000 people in San Diego

then compared to the current

population of 3 million. Ques-

tion – bike lanes reconfigured

recently are inconsistent and

causing some traffic issues. City

will be spending some money

to improve bicycle routes.

The star arrives late and,

through a hilarious series of

mishaps, is given a double

dose of tranquilizers and

passes out. His pulse is so

low that Saunders and his

assistant Max believe he’s

dead. In a frantic attempt to

salvage the evening, Saun-ders persuades Max to get

into Morelli's Otello cos-

tume and fool the audience

into thinking he's Il Stupen-

do.

Max succeeds admirably, but

Morelli comes to and gets

into his other costume ready

to perform. Now two Otel-

los are running around in

costume and two women are

running around in lingerie, each

thinking she is with Il Stupendo.

The show is directed by Tim

Arends and produced by Laurie

Hinckley. MMTG’s Lend Me a

Feb. 7 – 22, 2014, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.

Tips For

2014

Available

LoanLove

.com

SAN

DIEGO, Jan.

3, 2013

-- LoanLove.com is a borrower advice website that provides detailed insights into the mortgage

industry in a fun and entertaining way. The team at LoanLove.com is devoted to help empower

both first time and experienced homeowners with valuable resources, first-class knowledge and

connections to top-rated industry professionals and has the mission of helping consumers and

borrowers to obtain the latest information on mortgage lending trends, the real estate market

and the U.S. financial landscape in order to help them obtain a home loan. In a newly released

article, the website provides some mortgage tips for 2014 as well as information on the

numerous factors that affect mortgage rates and home prices this year.

The article explains, "The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) expects mortgage loans to in-

crease by nine percent in 2014. With so many buyers, why is the mortgage industry going to

tighten up and do less business? There are many buyers, but there is a shortage of houses on the

market. Less houses for sale means less homes sold and fewer mortgages closed. One of the

main reasons for this shortage is current homeowners now are waiting. By holding on now, they

hope to see their home values appreciate more before putting their homes on the market."

" It is not only market conditions that influence the mortgage industry. 2014 will see higher

mortgage interest rates, lower caps on federally insured mortgages and tighter qualifications for

those taking out a mortgage."

Loan Love explains that some of the mortgage changes for 2014. Stricter Qualified Mortgage

rules, a possible tightening of VA, FHA and USDA mortgages, a rise in interest rates, the return

of private lenders, and potential problems for low income borrowers. The Loan Love guide then gives some tips for those who are seeking mortgages this year. It says, "With tighter qualifica-

tions for mortgages the most important mortgage tips for 2014 are:

If you do not know any mortgage brokers ask friends, family and your realtor for recommen-

dations

Check with the Consumer Finance Protection Board for any derogatory information on the

broker you select

Prepare your documentation before applying – have tax returns, recent payroll stubs, recent

bank statements available.

Make sure all bills are current. Check your credit bureau reports."

However, the article points out that the stricter guidelines are actually a good thing, as it will

prevent borrowers from being pressured into accepting mortgages they cannot afford, which was

a big part of the housing mess in the first place.

For more information and tips on finding a mortgage in 2014, please visit LoanLove.com to read

Marauder Homecoming continued…. athletic organizations and showcased our enthusiastic student spirit. As the rally ended a freshmen told me,

“This was the best day of my life.”Anticipation and school spirit was high going into the game later that night. A long line of excited fans lined up to enter game. Community members, students, parents, and Marauder Ma-

niacs (very spirited fans) packed the stadium in support of our Marauder Football team. They were awed by a

breathtaking halftime show that showcased this year’s Grand Marshalls, Class Spirit dances, Homecoming Royal

Court, and magnificent MMHS Sapphire Sound Marching Band & Color Guard. The game concluded with a

spectacular grand fireworks finale. We were honored to have Board President John Lee Evans, Area Superin-

tendent Lamont Jackson, and SDUSD Superintendent Cindy Marten present. The experience I gained from these events is something that the entire MMHS community, student body and I

will cherish for a lifetime. The communal effort of putting this event together and the electrifying feeling of

accomplishment make me a proud MMHS Marauder, ASB President, and community member in Mira Mesa. In

my four years at Mira Mesa High School, I have never experienced an atmosphere filled with so much pride and

spirit for Mira Mesa. I am thankful to every single person who contributed to the success of this event, MMHS

ASB and to the lifetime memories created for the entire Mira Mesa community.

ance announces that its ninth annual San Diego Tet Festival, the Vietnamese

family with such activities as carnival rides and games, authentic Vietnamese

food, lion dancing and firecrackers. Enjoy entertainment programs, such as the

Miss Vietnam of San Diego pageant and a Cultural Village to immerse yourself in

Vietnamese culture.

This year being the year of the horse, there will also be pony rides for the kids

to enjoy.

Festival Dates and Hours are: Friday, Jan. 31, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.; Sat-

urday, Feb. 1, 2014 from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014 from 11

etnamese-American youth to organize socially and culturally within the local

communities.

At VAYA, we work to promote youth leadership, cultural awareness, social
