PREFACE
In 1965 th e s ta ff of the Le g isla tive Council accomplished and
d istrib u te d The Minutes of the D a ily P roceedings oft the Alaska
C onstitu tio na l Convention, 1955-56. The six-par t tra n sc rip tio n
oft the debates and r elated materials was d istrib u te d to convention
delegates and reference lib ra r ie s throughout the s ta te .
The 1965 publication lacked a basic index, allowing the reader
easy access to the committee proposals and ordinances where they
were discussed and to the decisions on the final substance and
wording of the articles and their sections.
The Legislative Affairs Agency arranged with Katherine V. Nordale,
a delegate to the convention, to apply her considerable talents
to a probing of the proceedings and supporting materials to
identify the sources of all parts of the final document, treatment
oft subjects not ultimately included in the constitution, identify
consultants and guests, and note the arrangements fo r the organiza-
tion and administration of the convention itself. We are appre-
ciative of her very successful eff orts and offer this index to
the explorers of Alaska constitutional history with the hope that
it will ease their path.
