Nashville 5 runs, 8 hits, 1 error Tacoma 12 runs, 16 hits, 0 errors RECAP: CF Shawn O’Malley and LF Patrick Kivlehan each homered twice and combined to drive in 7 runs as Tacoma defeated Nashvilled 12-5 on Thursday night. O’Malley (3x4, 2 R, 2B, 2 HR, 4 RBI) recorded his first career multi-home run game with a 3-run 2-out homer in the 5th inning and a solo blast with 1 out in the 8th inning. Kivlehan (2x5, 2 R, 2 HR, 3 RBI) recorded his 6th career multi-home run game with a solo blast to leadoff the 5th inning and a 2-run, 2-out homer in the 8th inning. Kivlehan currently leads the team with 21 home runs this season. 1B Ji-Man Choi (3x4, R, 2B, BB) and 3B Leury Bonilla (3x5, R, 2 RBI) each collected 3 of the Rainiers 16 hits. REHAB START: LH James Paxton began his rehab assignment with AAA Tacoma on Aug. 23. In his first rehab start on Aug. 23 vs.
Memphis, Paxton recorded the loss, allowing 1 run on 2 hits and 1 walk, while only recording 2 outs in the first inning before reaching his pitch limit. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list on May 29 with a strained tendon in the middle finger of his left hand after leaving the game in the 5th inning with discomfort in his left hand on May 28 vs. Cleveland. Paxton is 3-3 with a 3.70 ERA (24 ER, 58.1 IP) in 10 starts this season with Seattle.

shutout at Oklahoma City on Saturday, August 15…he held the Dodgers to just 3 hits while issuing 4 walks and striking out 2…the effort marks the first shutout for Wang since May 17, 2009 while playing for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (7.0,4,0,0,0,1)…Wang had not tossed a 9.0-inning shutout since July 28, 2006, his 2nd season with the New York Yankees…Wang is now the 2nd Taiwanese player in PCL history to earn Pitcher of the Week honors, joining Las Vegas pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo, who was previously named the league’s Pitcher of the Week for July 31-August 6, 2006…Wang tossed the 2nd shutout by a Rainiers pitcher this season, joining RH Justin Germano held the El Paso Chihuahuas on June 28, 2015.

final 3.0 innings to secure the win. ROY HOWELL TAKES OVER AS MANAGER: The Seattle Mariners announced that hitting coach Roy Howell would assume managerial
duties for the Jackson Generals for the remainder of the 2015 season beginning June 30. Jim Horner, who had managed Seattle’s Double-A affiliate since the beginning of last year, recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Washington State University. It marks the second-consecutive season that Howell has taken over as manager for a Seattle affiliate. Last March, he replaced Rich Donnelly as the manager at Triple-A Tacoma after Donnelly was named the Mariners third-base coach in Spring Training. He led the Rainiers to a 74-70 mark, and his 74 victories were tied for the 9th-most by a manager in his first full season. Howell, in his 4th season with the Mariners organization, spent 2012 and 2013 with the High Desert Mavericks in the California League. His managerial resume includes three seasons at short-season Eugene (2003-05), three seasons with San Luis of the California Collegiate League (2007-10) and one season leading the field staff for the Road Warriors of the independent Atlantic League (2011). A former first-round selection by Texas in the 1972 draft, Howell logged time in the PCL as a player with Spokane (1974) and Portland (1985), as well as three seasons as a hitting coach with Portland (2000-02).

Seattle Mariners minor league SS Ketel Marte and RHP Edwin Diaz represented the World team in the 17th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, as part of All-Star weekend. Marte, 21, went 2-for-2 with 1 RBI playing second and batting leadoff for the World Team. Diaz, 21, allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 0 and striking out 1 in 0.2 innings (3rd and 4th innings) for the
World squard. The Mariners have had 35 selections (including Marte and Diaz) to the Futures Game since its first began in 1999. Six players on the current 25-man roster (+DL) played in the Futures Game in the past: Robinson Cano (2003-04), Nelson Cruz (2005), Felix Hernandez (2004), Logan Morrison (2010), James Paxton (2011) and Taijuan Walker (2012-13). Brad Miller was selected to the 2013 U.S. Team, but was unable to play due to his promotion to the Major League squad. Cano (All-Star: 2006, 2010-14, Futures Game: 2003 & 2004), Cruz (All-Star: 2009, 2013-14, Futures Game: 2005) and Hernandez (All-Star: 2009, 2011-14; Futures Game: 2004) are each one of 120 players to have
