RECAP: DH Jesus Montero hit his 8th home run of the season and drove in 3 runs as Tacoma defeated New Orleans 6-1 on Wedneday night. Montero (2x3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, 2 BB), 2B Shawn O’Malley (2x5, R, 2B, RBI) and 1B Patrick Kivlehan (2x4, R, 2 2B) each collected 2 of the Rainiers 10 hits. Starter Sam Gaviglio (8.0,4,0,0,1,5) earned his 5th win of the season, allowing only 4 hits and striking out 5 in 8.0 shutout innings. RH Kevin Gregg (1.0,2,1,1,1,1) allowed 1 run in the 9th inning before closing out the game. INJURY UPDATE: INF Ketel Marte fractured his left thumb on May 31 vs. Round Rock and was placed on the disabled list on June 1…Marte was injured running the bases, stopped suddenly and put his hand down to get his balance. Marte hit safely in 42 of 51 games this season with 19 multi-hit contest, batting .343 (68x198) with 30 runs scored, 10 doubles, 1 triple, 2 home runs, 24 RBI, 18 walks and 17 stolen bases. At the time of his injury (through game on May 31), Marte led the PCL in average (.343/68x198), games (51) and hits (68), while ranking 2nd in stolen bases (17) and at-bats (198) and 3rd in lowest TPA/SO ratio (11.05).
