MINOR LEAGUE CLIPS Twins trade Red Wings’ Rohlfing to Mets organization Rochester Democrat & Chronicle– 4/22/15
Rochester Red Wings catcher Dan Rohlfing was shipped to the New York Mets on Wednesday in exchange for cash considerations.
Rohlfing, 26, has been on the disabled list since spring training ended because of a sprained left ankle.
The move alleviates a bit of a logjam at catcher for the Red Wings. They already have Josmil Pinto and Eric Fryer, plus Allan de San Miguel is on the disabled list.
Rohlfing had been in the Minnesota Twins minor-league system since 2007, when he was drafted on the 14th round.
The 2014 season was his first full year in Triple-A. He hit .205 with 2 home runs and 23 RBIs in 75 games. He split the 2013 season between the Wings and Double-A New Britain.
Rohlfing will be assigned to the Mets' Triple-A team in Las Vegas.
The Red Wings complete a four-game series in Syracuse with a 1:05 p.m. game on Thursday, then begin a 10-game home stand at 7:05 p.m. Friday with the first of three games against the Chiefs.
Wings rally, take slugfest in Syracuse Rochester Red Wings– 4/22/15
SYRACUSE, NY - The Rochester Red Wings erased two different five-run deficits and pounded out 16 hits in the process to beat the Syracuse Chiefs 11-7 Wednesday afternoon at NBT Bank Stadium.
Seven Wings tallied multiple hits and four players drove in two or more runs. The 16 hits are a season-high for Rochester.
Things did not start well for the Red Wings and starting pitcher Jason Wheeler on a blustery day in Syracuse. Ian Stewart tripled in two runs and scored on a Jason Martinson two-run home run as Syracuse led 4-0 after the first inning. Michael Taylor's solo home run in the second made it 5-0 Chiefs. The Red Wings got on the board with a Josmil Pinto ground out in the third but Stewart homered in the bottom half to give Syracuse its second five-run lead at 6-1.
Rochester began its comeback bid in the fourth, mostly with two outs. Reynaldo Rodriguez extended his hitting streak to a team-high eight games leading off the frame and Danny Ortiz followed with a walk. Back-to-back fielder's choices were recorded for the first two outs but Doug Bernier produced his first of three RBI singles to pull the Wings within 6-2. A coaching visit preceded an Aaron Hicks two-run double and Eddie Rosario followed with a two-run homer to knot the game at six.
Bernier's second RBI hit gave the Red Wings their first lead of the game in the fifth but the Chiefs used an infield single, two walks and two wild pitches, both by Stephen Pryor (1-0), to tie the score at seven apiece. Pryor relieved Wheeler, who finished his day by allowing seven runs on eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 4.1 innings.
Rosario helped give the Red Wings another lead with a hustle double to lead off the sixth. He would score on a Pinto single to center and Rochester was is front at 8-7. The Wings would plate three more runs in the inning to cap the scoring at 11-7.
A Rochester bullpen that has had recent struggles on this current 11-game road trip was fantastic as Pryor, Logan Darnell, A.J. Achter and Ryan Pressly combined to toss 4.2 hitless frames with two walks and six strikeouts. The latter three worked perfect innings as the final 11 Chiefs were retired in order.
Hicks and Bernier each recorded three hits and both drove in multiple runs along with Rosario and Pinto.
Next up: RHP Mark Hamburger (0-1) starts for the Wings as cap an 11-game road trip on Thursday at 1:05 p.m.
Next Home Game: Fri. April 24 vs. Syracuse (Nationals) at 7:05 p.m.

Palm Beach sweeps Miracle with 7-2 victory Fort Myers Miracle– 4/22/15
JUPITER, Fla. (April 22, 2015) - The Palm Beach Cardinals completed a three game sweep of the Fort Myers Miracle on Wednesday night with a 7-2 win at Roger Dean Stadium.
After the Miracle scored on a two-out RBI single by Marcus Knecht in the top of the first, the Cardinals blitzed starter Aaron Slegers for five runs on six hits in the bottom half of the inning. Robelys Reyes led off with an infield hit and stole second bases. After Mason Katz rolled out to short, Bruce Caldwell yanked a single through the right side to bring in Reyes.
Luke Voit followed with a single in to center. Caldwell and Voit advanced on a ground out to second by Rowan Wick. Carson Kelly then stroked a double into right center field on a 1-1 pitch from Slegers (1-1) to drive in a pair. Ronald Castillo knocked in a fourth run on a single into left. The next hitter, Juan Herrera doubled down the first base line. A throwing error by Knecht in right let Castillo come in to score to cap off a five-run inning.
The Miracle cut into the Cardinals advantage in the third. With one down, Niko Goodrum legged out a double down the left field line. Palm Beach starter Rob Kaminsky struck out Aderling Mejia for the second out, but Mitch Garver sliced a base hit into right field to bring in Goodrum and cut the Cardinals lead to 5-2.
Slegers exited the game after three innings and surrendering five runs, four earned. Alex Muren came out of the Miracle bullpen and gave up a pair of runs in the fourth. Caldwell smacked an RBI double off the wall in left center and Rowan Wick reached on an error by Tanner Vavra allowing a second run to score.
Kaminsky (1-0) tossed the requisite five innings to qualify for the win and struck out six with two walks. The combination of Steven Sabatino, Chasen Brookshire and Josh Lucas combined to work the final four innings scoreless out of the Palm Beach pen.

Vavra has four hits in 5-4 win over Wisconsin Cedar Rapids Kernels– 4/22/15
GRAND CHUTE, Wis. - The Kernels edged Wisconsin 5-4 on Wednesday night as Trey Vavra collected four hits in four at-bats. Vavra had three singles, one double and one run batted in after collecting three hits and driving in five runs in Tuesday night's victory. In the two games this series, he's now 7-for-9 with a home run, triple, double and six runs batted in.
Three Kernels pitchers combined to strike out 16 Timber Rattlers. Randy LeBlanc (1-0) struck out four Timber Rattlers in the seventh inning after one victim reached via a wild pitch. LeBlanc secured the win after working 2 1/3 innings in relief. He allowed one run on one hit while striking out five. Cam Booser also struck out five as he picked up his second save by not allowing a run in the eighth or ninth. Zack Tillery started for the Kernels and lasted 4 2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on three hits while striking out six and walking one.
The Kernels improved to 10-4 on the season. They are 10-0 when they score at least four runs. The team is 0-4 when they score less than four runs.
Monte Harrison connected for two long home runs for the Timber Rattlers, his first two of the season.
The Kernels (10-4) jumped in front of the Timber Rattlers with a four-run first inning. Zack Granite and Nick Gordon started the ballgame with singles to put two men on. Zack Larson was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and Max Murphy drew a walk to bring Granite home for the game's first run. Trey Vavra's RBI single to left plated Gordon, making the score 2-0. T.J. White then reached on a RBI fielder's choice, allowing Larson to score the third run. With runners on the corners, a double steal put the Kernels up 4-0. It looked like White would be picked off at first base, but he broke for second and was called safe. On the play, Murphy scored easily from third base.
Harrison launched a solo home run to deep left in the second inning as Wisconsin got on the board with their first hit. Harrison's first of two long balls on the night cut the Kernels lead to 4-1.
Wisconsin (3-11) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to trim the Kernels lead to 4-3. David Denson tripled to right-center with one out in the fourth and came home to score on Elvis Rubio's RBI groundout. In the fifth, Harrison led off the frame with a walk and scored later on two-out RBI single by Gregory Munoz.
The Kernels quickly got a run back in the top of the sixth inning, extending their lead to 5-3. Vavra doubled to left-center with one out, his third hit of the night. He then came home on White's RBI single to left.
Harrison connected again for Wisconsin in the seventh inning for the game's final run. His second deep shot to left field cut the Kernels lead to 5-4.
Harrison batted again in the ninth inning, but Booser struck him out for the second out. Sthervin Matos reached on Booser's throwing error with two outs in the ninth, putting the tying run at second base. However, Booser struck out Jake Gatewood to end the game.
Kodi Medeiros (0-1) took the loss for Wisconsin. He struck out eight over five innings, allowing four runs on four hits.
