1 Product description

The Mini power backup is an UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) and designed to be installed at the side of,

and for connection to, a house controller. The Mini power backup safeguards the house controller against

disturbances from brief supply outage of supply-interruptions at 115 V / 230 V, where the house controller

would otherwise restart. The Mini power backup is typically used where there is no emergency opening.

The Mini power backup is factory-set to a limited backup time of 5 minutes.

A Mini power backup may only be connected to a house controller in the DOL 53X or DOL 63X series if:

• the house controller has a maximum of 6 ADD I/O modules.

• nothing is connected to the main module and the + 24 V terminals of the ADD I/O modules.

• the consumption from the 24 V terminals of the loop module is only up to 0.8 A.

A Mini power backup may only be connected to a DOL 234F house controller if:

• the house controller has a maximum of 6 ADD I/O modules.

• the total consumption from the main module and the ADD I/O modules does not exceed 0.4 A from the

+24 V terminals.

2 Mounting guide

2.1 Electrical connection

Qualified personnel in accordance with the applicable national and international standard EN

60204-1 and any other EU standards that are applicable in Europe must perform installation,

servicing and troubleshooting of all electrical equipment.

The installation of a power supply isolator is required for each motor and power supply to

facilitate voltage-free work on the electrical equipment. SKOV A/S does not supply the power

supply isolator.

A Mini power backup can only supply power to one house controller.

Terminals A5 and A6 in the house controller may only be connected to the Mini power backup

and loop module.

2.2 Mounting/connection of Mini power backup

1) Disconnect the 230 V power supply to the house controller.

2) Remove the covers from the house controller and Mini power backup.

3) Use the enclosed rubber sleeve (A) and screws to mount the Mini power backup on the wall next to the

house controller.

4) Connect the wires (B) according to the connection diagram.

5) The alarm output (C) must be connected to an alarm system in order to warn about supply-

interruptions. The alarm relay switch T20-T21 opens when the supply is interrupted. See section 2.6

Alarm.

6) If an alarm delay of 5 minutes is desired, connect the alarm relay to the house controller instead. See

section 2.6 Alarm.

7) Reconnect the power supply (230 V).

8) Connect the battery wires (D):

• Red to red battery pole

• Black to black battery pole

2.4 Fan groups 400 V with ON-Delay timers

The ON-Delay timers are available in many varieties.

When using the Mini power backup, all fan groups must not be started simultaneously, as this will

overload the emergency generator in the event of power failure – depending on its type, size and load.

Use the ON-Delay timers with different settings (e.g. 10-20-30-40 seconds) for the fan groups to achieve

a sequential start-up, which will ensure that the emergency generator does not overload.

ON The house controller remains in operation for up to 5 minutes.

OFF The house controller remains in operation until the battery

has been discharged for approx. 0.5 - 3 hours in a row.

2.6 Alarm

The alarm relay switch T20-T21 opens when the supply is interrupted.

Instant alarm:

The alarm relay must be connected to the alarm system so that an alarm is triggered for supply-interruptions at

115 V / 230 V, as well as brief supply-interruptions (<5min).

Delayed alarm:

The Mini power backup is factory-set to a time limit of 5 minutes, which means that the house controller’s

alarm relay drops out after 5 minutes. The house controller’s alarm will not be triggered for brief supply-

interruptions (<5min).

The delayed alarm may be a risk to the animals but can be advantageous to use, particularly at night, for

locations where several brief supply-interruptions at 230 V may occur.

2.7 Start-up test of Mini power backup

1) Check that the GREEN lamp is on.

2) Disconnect the 115 V / 230 V power supply to the house controller.

3) Check that:

• the display of the house controller remains on.

• the RED lamp flashes and beeps every ten seconds.

• the display of the house controller turns off after approx. 5 minutes.

• an alarm is generated.

4) Reconnect the 115 V / 230 V power supply to the house controller.

5) Check that the GREEN lamp turns on again.

6) Mount the covers on the house controller and Mini power backup.

3 Functional description

The Mini power backup does not require servicing. The Mini power backup safeguards the house controller

against disturbances from brief supply outage of supply-interruptions at 115 V / 230 V, where the house

controller would otherwise restart a couple of minutes after the 115 V / 230 V supply returns.

If the house controller is turned off for several days, the single wire on the Mini power backup battery must be

disconnected in order to avoid complete discharge and therefore damage to the battery.

The Mini power backup with a time limit of 5 minutes has the following functions:

• Built-in battery and charger

• Activation of alarm relay when supply is interrupted

• Limited backup time of up to 5 minutes

• A beep sound at 10 second intervals will be heard during the 5 minutes

Example 1: Three minute supply-interruption

The house controller is supplied by means of the Mini power backup battery for three minutes and is then

switched back automatically to its own power supply when the power (230 V) is restored.

Example 2: Seven minute supply-interruption

The house controller is supplied by means of the Mini power backup battery for five minutes. The Mini power

backup disconnects the power supply and there is no battery backup for the last two minutes until the power

(230 V) is restored.

Under normal conditions however, the emergency generator on the farm will manage to start within the five

minutes and act as a backup for the last two minutes - also in cases of long-term supply-interruption.

4 Maintenance

4.1 Test of Mini power backup

A test should be carried out on weekly basis in order to ensure that the Mini power backup is functioning

correctly.

1) Disconnect the 115 V / 230 V power supply to the house controller.

2) Check that the house controller’s display remains on for half a minute.

3) Reconnect the 115 V / 230 V power supply to the house controller.

4.2 Battery module

Replace the battery module at least every 3 years.

Replace the two ventilation plugs at the same time as the battery.
