What is going well? The aspects of my production which I feel are working well are the colour scheme and the font choices I am working with. I think the fonts used for the main pieces of information and parts which should stand out works well as it is bold and eye catching, whilst still being clear to read. The effects I have used such as shadows and strokes help to make the words stand out from the page whilst also adding cool effects and making them interesting for the eye to look at. For the smaller writing and copy I have used a simple sans-serif font which is easy to read at a small size and the words can be interpreted easily. I feel the colour choices are working well together as they stand out from each other and contrast well to ensure everything can be seen and doesn’t blend together making a clash of colour which messes with the eye. I feel that the yellow explosion clipart works well with the design as it helps to make the 32 stand out and pop from the can. It can also be a visual example of how much energy the drink gives the consumer.

What is not going as well? Suggest improvements. One area of my production which I feel is not working as well would be the back of the can. I feel that although the slogan and image work well together, they do not work on the can and it has a cheap, unprofessional look to it. I would improve this by moving the nutritional information and ingredients to this section of the can, making the slogan and image need less room. This will space out the copy more and allow to make the font slightly bigger and easy to read whilst also keeping the slogan and image but not as tacky looking. It would also allow me to add a barcode to my product as you would need one if it was to be an actual can sold in shops. One other thing I would adjust is adding the brand logo “BARR” to the can.

I made some of the alterations and improvements which I thought should be made and this was the outcome. I think the improvements and alterations were effective because now the can looks more professional and neatly made. One thing that I feel I should still work on and add to is the back of the can. Where the nutritional information and ingredients are listen, there is still a mass of empty space which I feel should be used up so this is something for me to work on as I want to place something here to make the can look polished and finished.

For this design idea I inverted all of the colours so that the oranges became blue and the blues became orange. I think this has worked well because all of the different sections are contrasting and stand out from each other, making it easy it know the different sections and also read all of the copy. One thing that I do not think has worked as well though would be the word ‘pop’ on the side part piece of the can. It gives off a more chilled and cold feeling to the drink making it more relaxing rather than looking hot and energetic so I would maybe make slight alterations to this or use the colour orange still to make it look warmer and more vivid and bold.

What is going well?One of the aspects of this can design which I think is working well is the front of the can with the IRN BRU 32 logo. I feel that throughout the various designs I have tested and created, the logo stays the same throughout. I feel putting the yellow explosion image behind the words helps them to stand out and pop from the can. Using the different effects such as applying a stroke or drop shadow also helps to draw the words out from the can also and give them definition. I think changing the colours of superman to orange and blue was effective along with using the number 32 instead of S on his chest. This worked well because it helped to tie in superman with the drink and will draw in anyone from the niche audience who likes superman. Although anyone who saw the can would know it was superman, it gives the idea that the superhero is IRN BRU related and has been created specifically for the drinks company.

What is not going as well? Suggest improvements. One part of the can which I think could be improved or changed would be slogan on the back of the can. I feel it works well as a whole but doesn’t look 100% right in the space I have placed it. I feel that it is too large and would benefit from being put somewhere else or being made slightly smaller and something else being put at the bottom of the can also.
