MIND MAP – SURAH AL FURQAN 1-10

Now we will look at the breakdown of these ayat. This is not based on tafseer, since we already did

that. Rather it is to break it down and see it in a ‘mind map’ or ‘outline’ format. This facilitates a way of

remembering the flow of the ayat, and it helps to remember the words.

لَ ٱلَِّذى تَبَاَركَ لَِمينَ لِيَُكونَ َعۡبِدهِۦ َعلَى ٱۡلفُۡرقَانَ نَزَّ ـ َوٲتِ ُمۡلكُ ۥ لَهُ ٱلَِّذى (١) نَِذيًرا لِۡلَع ـ َم ا يَتَِّخذۡ َولَمۡ َوٱۡۡلَۡرضِ ٱلسَّ ۥ لَّهُ يَُكن َولَمۡ َولًَدً۬ ٱۡلُمۡلكِ فِى َشِريك ً۬

َرهُ َشۡىء ً۬ ُڪلَّ َوَخلَقَ ا ۥ فَقَدَّ ُدونِِهۦ ِمن َوٱتََّخُذوا (٢) تَۡقِديًرً۬

ا يَۡخلُقُونَ ّلَّ َءالَِهةًً۬ ا ِۡلَنفُِسِهمۡ يَۡملُِكونَ َوَّل يُۡخلَقُونَ َوُهمۡ َشۡيـ ًً۬ا َوَّل َضر ًً۬ يَۡملُِكونَ َوَّل نَۡفًعً۬

ا وةً َوَّل َمۡوتًً۬ ا َوَّل َحي َذآ إِۡن َكفَُرٓوا ٱلَِّذينَ َوقَالَ (٣) نُُشوًرً۬ ـ ٓ َه هُ إِۡفك إِّلَّ ا َجآُءو فَقَدۡ َۖءاَخُرونَ قَۡوم َعلَۡيهِ ۥ َوأََعانَهُ ٱۡفتََرٮ ا ظُۡلًمً۬ َوقَالُٓوا (٤) َوُزوًرً۬

ِطيرُ ـ لِينَ أََس َعلَۡيهِ تُۡملَى فَِهىَ ٱۡڪتَتَبََها ٱۡۡلَوَّرَّ يَۡعلَمُ ٱلَِّذى أَنَزلَهُ قُلۡ (٥) َوأَِصيلًً۬ بُڪَۡرةًً۬ َوٲتِ فِى ٱلسِّ ـ َم ا َڪانَ ۥ إِنَّهُ َۚوٱۡۡلَۡرضِ ٱلسَّ ا َغفُوًرً۬ ِحيًمً۬ (٦) رَّ

َذا َمالِ َوقَالُوا ـ ُسولِ َه إِلَۡيهِ أُنِزلَ لَۡوَّلٓ ۙٱۡۡلَۡسَواقِ فِى َويَۡمِشى ٱلطََّعامَ يَۡأُڪلُ ٱلرَّ ۥ لَهُ تَُكونُ أَوۡ َڪنز إِلَۡيهِ يُۡلقَى ٓ أَوۡ (٧) نَِذيًرا ۥ َمَعهُ فَيَُكونَ َملَك ً۬

َجنَّة ً۬

لُِمونَ َوقَالَ ِۚمۡنَها يَۡأُڪلُ ـ إِّلَّ تَتَّبُِعونَ إِن ٱلظَّۡسُحوًرا َرُجلًً۬ لَ لَكَ َضَربُوا َڪۡيفَ ٱنظُرۡ (٨) مَّ ـ يَۡستَِطيُعونَ فََل فََضلُّوا ٱۡۡلَۡمثَ

إِن ٱلَِّذىٓ تَبَاَركَ (٩) َسبِيلًً۬

ا لَكَ َجَعلَ َشآءَ ن َخۡيًرً۬ ت ً۬ َذٲلِكَ مِّ ـ رُ تَۡحتَِها ِمن تَۡجِرى َجنَّ ـ ا لَّكَ َويَۡجَعل ٱۡۡلَۡنَه (١١) قُُصوَرَۢ

Blessed is He Who sent down the criterion (of right and wrong, i.e. this Qur'ân) to His slave (Muhammad

SAW) that he may be a warner to the 'Alamîn (mankind and jinn). (1) He to Whom belongs the dominion of

the heavens and the earth, and Who has begotten no son (children or offspring) and for Whom there is no

partner in the dominion. He has created everything, and has measured it exactly according to its due

measurements (2) Yet they have taken besides Him other âlihâh (gods) that created nothing but are

themselves created, and possess neither hurt nor benefit for themselves, and possess no power (of causing)

death, nor (of giving) life, nor of raising the dead. (3) Those who disbelieve say: "This (the Qurân) is nothing

but a lie that he (Muhammad SAW) has invented, and others have helped him at it, in fact they have

produced an unjust wrong (thing) and a lie." (4) And they say: "Tales of the ancients, which he has written

down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon." (5) Say: "It (this Qur'ân) has been sent down

by Him (Allâh) (the Real Lord of the heavens and earth) Who knows the secret of the heavens and the

earth. Truly, He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (6) And they say: "Why does this Messenger (Muhammad

SAW) eat food, and walk about in the markets (as we). Why is not an angel sent down to him to be a

warner with him? (7) "Or (why) has not a treasure been granted to him, or why has he not a garden

whereof he may eat?" And the Zâlimûn (polytheists and wrong-doers) say: "You follow none but a man

bewitched." (8) See how they coin similitudes for you, so they have gone astray, and they cannot find a

(Right) Path (9) Blessed is He Who, if He wills, will assign you better than (all) that, - Gardens under which

rivers flow (Paradise) and will assign you palaces (i.e. in Paradise). (10)

GREATNESS OF ALLAH – AYAT 1-2

Tabarak – The Blessed One for: ( َتَبَاَرك)

1. Bringing down the Quran ( لَ ٱلَِّذى ٱۡلفُۡرقَانَ نَزَّ )

2. Upon His slave (Messenger pbuh) (َعلَى َعۡبِدهِۦ)

So that he may be a warner to the people (لَِميَن نَِذيًرا ـ (لِيَُكوَن لِۡلَع

Who is Allah?

1. His dominion ( ُمۡلكُ ۥ لَهُ ٱلَِّذى )

The heavens ( َِوٲت ـ َم (ٱلسَّ

and the earth ( َِوٱۡۡلَۡرض)

2. He has no son ( ا يَتَِّخذۡ َولَمۡ َولًَدً۬ )

3. He has no partner in which He is sharing His dominion ( َِولَۡم يَُكن لَّهۥُ َشِريك ً۬ فِى ٱۡلُمۡلك)

4. He created everything ( ء ً۬ َوَخلََق ُڪلَّ َشىۡ )

5. He proportioned and estimated everything (ا َرهۥُ تَۡقِديًرً۬ (فَقَدَّ

DESCRIPTION OF WHAT THEY WORSHIP OTHER THAN ALLAH – AYAH 3

Description of something rather than Allah (which people worship) ( (َوٱتََّخُذوا ِمن ُدونِِهۦ َءالَِهةًً۬

1. They cannot create anything, so why do you worship them? ( ا يَۡخلُقُونَ ّلَّ َشۡيـ ًً۬ )

2. And they are created, they are creation ( ََوُهۡم يُۡخلَقُون)

3. And they do not own for themselves: ( َۡوَّل يَۡملُِكوَن ِۡلَنفُِسِهم)

can protect themselves from harm (ا (َضر ًً۬

and cannot bring on any benefit (ا (َوَّل نَۡفًعً۬

4. And they do not own ( ََوَّل يَۡملُِكون)

Death (ا (َمۡوتًً۬

Life( وةً َوَّل َحي )

Resurrection ( نُُشوًرً۬ َوَّل )

WHAT DID THE DISBELIEVERS SAY? – AYAT 4 -10

What did the disbelievers say? ( َوقَاَل ٱلَِّذيَن َكفَُرٓوا)

1. Quran ( َٓذا ـ (إِۡن َه

That it is a lie ( إِۡفك ٓ (إِّلَّ

Fabricated ( ُه (ٱۡفتََرٮ

And help from others to fabricate it ( ََۖوأََعانَهۥُ َعلَۡيِه قَۡوم َءاَخُرون )

Allah’s reply to them: (فَقَۡد َجآُءو)

o Wrong, unfair (ا (ظُۡلًمً۬

o Greatly wrong they are saying (ا (َوُزوًرً۬

Stories / tales of the past ( ِطيرُ َوقَالُٓوا ـ لِينَ أََس ٱۡۡلَوَّ )

That the Messenger (pbuh) was writing it (ٱۡڪتَتَبََها)

Or someone was dictating it to him ( ِفَِهَى تُۡملَى َعلَۡيه)

o In the morning ( ًً۬بُڪَۡرة)

o And in the evening ( ًًَ۬وأَِصيل)

Allah’s reply to them ( ۡقُل)

o The One who sent the Quran is the One who knows the secrets and

hearts of the people (رَّ فِى (أَنَزلَهُ ٱلَِّذى يَۡعلَُم ٱلسِّ

In the heavens ( َِوٲت ـ َم (ٱلسَّ

And the earth ( َِۚوٱۡۡلَۡرض )

o Verily Allah is ( َڪانَ ۥ إِنَّهُ )

Most Forgiving (ا (َغفُوًرً۬

Most Merciful (ا ِحيًمً۬ (رَّ

2. Messenger of Allah (pbuh) – disbelievers said about him ( ُِسول َذا ٱلرَّ ـ (َوقَالُوا َماِل َه

That he eats food ( َيَۡأُڪُل ٱلطََّعام)

And walks in the markets (referring to being human) ( َِۙويَۡمِشى فِى ٱۡۡلَۡسَواق )

Or an angel should come down with him ( ً۬ لَۡوَّلٓ أُنِزَل إِلَۡيِه َملَك)

In order to be a warner with him (فَيَُكوَن َمَعهۥُ نَِذيًرا)

Or he should be given a treasure ( إِلَۡيِه َڪنز ٓ (أَۡو يُۡلقَى

And to have a garden ( (أَۡو تَُكوُن لَهۥُ َجنَّة ً۬

To eat from it (ۚيَۡأُڪُل ِمۡنَها )

And that he is a bewitched man ( لُِمونَ َوقَالَ ـ إِّلَّ تَتَّبُِعونَ إِن ٱلظَّۡسُحوًرامَّ َرُجلًً۬ )

Allah’s reply:

Look how they gave these examples (as a way to give console to the Messenger

pbuh) ( َل ـ (ٱنظُۡر َڪۡيَف َضَربُوا لََك ٱۡۡلَۡمثَ

o They have been misguided ( فََضلُّوا)

o And they do not have a guided way ( ًً۬فََل يَۡستَِطيُعوَن َسبِيل)

Blessed is Allah that He can give you better ( ا لَكَ َجَعلَ َشآءَ إِن ٱلَِّذىٓ تَبَاَركَ ن َخۡيًرً۬ َذٲلِكَ مِّ )

o Can give you not just one garden, but gardens with rivers flowing ( ً۬ ت ـ َجنَّ

رُ ـ (تَۡجِرى ِمن تَۡحتَِها ٱۡۡلَۡنَه

o And give you palaces ( ا لَّكَ َويَۡجَعل قُُصوَرَۢ )

We ask Allah to open the means for us to understand and imprint the Quran in our hearts. And may Allah give us the

Criterion to make each day clearer than yesterday. Ameen.

Oh Allah, increase us in guidance and keep us on the way of guidance until the last moment of our lives. We ask Allah for His forgiveness

and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah for His

forgiveness and to put forgiveness in the hearts of those who read them. Ameen ya Rabb Al ‘Alameen.
