OUR STORY
Dolce Suono Ensemble (DSE), founded in 2005 by flutist Mimi
Stillman, is a powerful force in the world of chamber music and a
major contributor to the cultural life of Philadelphia.
“All programs should have this much to say and say it so
well.”
DAVID PATRICK STEARNS, THE PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER

DSE’s mission is to enrich and inform people’s lives through
chamber music. Our curatorial vision sets the music in its broadest
cultural context, with projects innovative and profound.
DSE, comprised of some of today’s most dynamic artists, has
garnered critical acclaim for its performances on our home series
Dolce Suono Ensemble Presents and at prestigious international
venues, and for its recordings and media broadcasts.
Our repertoire spans Baroque to new music, with 32 world
premieres in our first nine seasons by composers including Richard
Danielpour, Fang Man, David Ludwig, Steven Mackey, Shulamit Ran,
and Steven Stucky. We have welcomed guest artists including Eric
Owens, Anthony Newman, and Lucy Shelton.
We enjoy a partnership with Washington National Opera’s
Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program at the invitation of Plácido
Domingo.
DSE’s strong commitment to engaging new audiences includes our
project “Música en tus Manos” (Music in Your Hands), an engagement
initiative with the Latino community of Philadelphia for which we
won the Knight Arts Challenge 2013.
DSE’s project highlights include Mahler 100 / Schoenberg 60,
Debussy in Our Midst, Samuel Barber at 100, and programs exploring
the Baroque trio sonata, Russian music, the Holocaust, and
connections with visual art.
