The decision to consider a later start is in light of sleep research that indicates adolescents benefit from a later school start time. No decisions were made at this meeting but discussions will continue in order to collect information and opinions from district stakeholders. You can go to the following website for information on this issue: http:// www.startschoollater.net/ RSU40 will be asking your opinion soon to gauge interest in this change. Changing the High School/Middle School start times to a later time would mean an earlier start time for the elementary schools. Again, nothing has been decided and your opinion is important. IMPORTANT LUNCH NEWS When sending in lunch money for your child, PLEASE make sure you put the money in an envelope clearly marked with your child’s first and last name. We want to make sure that the money gets credited to the correct account. We have pre-printed envelopes available at the front office for your convenience.

Reminder from The Health Office

School protocol requires any medications (prescription or ANY over-the-counter meds such as Tylenol, cough medicines, antibiotic ointments) that your child may need at school (and administered by school personnel) be brought in by an adult (handed from adult to adult) and requires that a medication administration form be in place at school with the parent and physician signatures. This form can be picked up at school or it can be down-loaded from the RSU#40/MSAD#40 website-go to administration--school health services. Also, most physician offices are willing to fax an order for your child to the school if needed, but a parent signature is still required. The school fax number is 832-2101. Parents/ guardians are permitted to come and medicate their own children if needed without the permission forms. Remember to bring in meds in their original containers with your child's name on them. These safeguards are in place for the safety of all our children.

      HAPPY NEW YEAR!

One of my 2017 New Year’s goals is to write in the Miller School Newsletter at least once a month.  With the holidays over, we are all adjusting to getting back to school.  No more late night movies, sleeping in without an alarm, and unstructured time at home.  Winter break is over and it is time to get ourselves and our kids back into routines.   Earlier bed times and wake-up times.  Time set aside in the evenings when new toys are put away and we ask our children to focus on homework or reading.  Teachers this week are reviewing with students the school expectations and procedures practiced this past Fall.   A pep talk at home is always a useful reminder also.  Please feel free to call me if you need support helping your child return to school successfully.

Winter Weather Is Here! Now that Winter has arrived, all students should be coming to school with a coat, a hat, and mittens. Once there is snow on the ground your child should be wearing his/her snowpants and boots. All students go out to recess each day unless the wind chill is 10 degrees or below. It’s a good idea to send in an extra hat and pair of mittens for your child to keep in his/her cubby at school. This way he/she will always be prepared. When children wear boots to school it is very important that they bring a pair of shoes to wear while they are at school. It is extremely important on the days that your child has phys ed or music as it is not safe for them to be running/dancing with boots on, not to mention the fact that it is not a good idea for their feet to be in sweaty boots all day. Thank you for your cooperation.
