Through the MWA-USAID funding, World Vision has

improved access to safe water to about 30, 000 people

(including women and children) in Mtito Andei Division,

Kibwezi District, Makueni County, Eastern Province in

Kenya.

This has been achieved through 35km pipeline

extensions, six 50m³ water storage tanks, seven 100m³

water storage tanks, 15 water Kiosks (selling points) and

two cattle troughs.

The water projects extensions to the community,

have enhanced promotion of multiple uses of the

water to include domestic purposes, livestock

purposes, kitchen gardening, and environmental

conservation.

Water has been linked to food security through

small kitchen gardens at household level, micro

irrigation (drip) and environmental conservation

through establishment of tree nurseries and

planting of trees in schools, catchment areas and

community.

When a billion people in the world already

live in chronic hunger and water resources

are under pressure we cannot pretend the

problem is ‘elsewhere’. At all steps of the

supply chain, from producers to consumers,

actions can be taken to save water and

ensure food for all.
