A Brief Real Estate Info Guide October 31, 2009 My "Geography" The Marine Corps (1968-1974) taught me to be a Navigator so Google Earth is a natural place for me to introduce you to my neighborhoods. I am intimately familiar with my home neighborhood of Weston in Broward County. I've lived in the area since 2000 when I immigrated here from Lexington Kentucky. If you visit Weston from Google Earth you will see that it is strategically located at the intersection of I- 595, Sawgrass Parkway and I-75. These three paths provide quick access to Pembroke Pines, Sunrise, Davie, Cooper City, and Plantation. It is a 14 minute drive East to Ft. Lauderdale (FLL International Airport), 38 minute drive to central Miami, Miami International, South Beach or Aventura (Large Brazilian population); it is a 20 minute drive to Boca Raton, 44 minute drive Northeast to West Palm, 70 minute drive West to Naples and 3 hour drive North to Orlando. Our living habits tend to take us mostly into the Sunrise, Pembroke Pines, Plantation areas; our entertainment and cultural excursions take us to the "East", that is Ft Lauderdale by the Sea, Pompano Beach, and Hollywood Florida. Weekend getaways are to Naples, Ft Pierce or Orlando. Every six weeks or so we take visits to Boston, Cape Cod and Southern New Hampshire to visit family and enjoy New England's lifestyle of Americana. The United States does not have an official language; however, the majority of the population speaks English as a native language (some 82%). The variety of English spoken in the United States is known as American English; together with Canadian English it makes up the group of dialects known as North American English. 96% of the population of the U.S. speaks English "well" or "very well".[3] There have been several proposals to make English the national language in amendments to immigration reform bills.[4][5] None of these bills have become law with the amendment intact.

Spanish is the second most common language in the country, and is spoken by over 12% of the population.[6] The United States holds the world's fifth largest Spanish-speaking population, outnumbered only by Mexico, Spain, Argentina, and Colombia. Throughout the Southwestern United States, long-established Spanish-speaking communities coexist with large numbers of more recent Spanish-speaking immigrants. Although many new Latin American immigrants are less than fluent in English, second-generation Hispanic Americans commonly speak English fluently, while only about half still speak Spanish.[7]
