Between 2015 and 2016, the flow of Guineans tothe EU increased. First time applications for asylum and the number of irregular crossings detected via sea have both tripled. In 2016, the number of returns also increased.
In 2015, ~420 000 Guineans (3.5% of the total population) were migrants. Their primary destination was Africa, specifically Côte d'Ivoire. The majority of migrants living in Guinea were from Mali.
