Jarred passed away on Au-

gust 22, 2019 as a result of

an automobile accident.

Jarred was a senior at Mif-

flin County High School

where he was an honor stu-

dent. In addition, Jarred

was enrolled in his third and

final year of the Electrical Installation program at The

Academy. His dream was to pursue a career as an elec-

trician. As we celebrate the accomplishments of our stu-

dents this year, may we reflect upon and celebrate the

positive impact that Jarred had on his classmates, teach-

ers and administration. Jarred loved hunting and fishing

and enjoyed helping others. Jarred was always an honest

young man and gave his time to help others even if it

was just to put a smile on their face. Jarred had a love

for older Ford vehicles and was restoring a 1980’s Ford

pickup. His life was taken too soon and he is truly

missed.

Charles R. Yeater Memorial Scholarship

Charles R. Yeater began his teach-

ing career as the Electrical Installa-

tion instructor in 1988 at The Acad-

emy, which was then known as the

Juniata-Mifflin Counties Area Vo-

cational Technical School. Mr.

Yeater touched the lives of many

students throughout his years of

teaching the Electrical Installation

program. He touched just as many students or more

with his warm smile and friendly greeting every day

and genuine interest in students’ lives and goals. He

always had positive things to say about his students

and truly supported and believed in the vocational ed-

ucation programs offered at this school. He also had

very strong ties to the community through his work

with the Milroy Fire Company and other community

positions. Charlie passed away from cancer on Octo-

ber 16, 2016. He is survived by wife, Georgia, daugh-

ter Abby, and grandson, Chase who miss him dearly. A

scholarship fund was formed in Charlie’s memory

with the purpose of assisting students, not only Elec-

trical students but any student, from The Academy in

furthering their education or starting a career with the

proper tools needed. Charlie’s memory lives on

through these scholarships and through the fact that he

continues to support the goals of The Academy stu-

dents.

P. Robert Baker Memorial Scholarship

P. Robert “Bob” Baker grew up just steps from the

Academy in the Lewistown Heights. He left school

early to enlist in the US Navy during WW II. He trav-

eled to five continents and saw heavy battle in the

South Pacific where his ship was hit by a Kamikaze

pilot. Bob served in the amphibious detail which was

a precursor to today’s Seals. Upon leaving the service,

Bob became a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, mar-

ried Dorothy Gilson of Port Royal and raised two

daughters, Beth and MeeCee. Bob also was known for

being the local pitcher who defeated The House of Da-

vid, barn storming team that played Lewistown at Dix-

on Field. Bob’s emphasis on vocational education as a

way to improve one’s station in life prompted this

scholarship.
