When you are Setting up You Social Media
Profile1. Use privacy settings that limit access to who can view your online profile and information on your age, school you attend, who are your friends.....
2. Limit access to your friends list to people you actually know in real life, do not entertain strangers, Just as you wouldn’t being out and about.
3. Use your real name not some alias.
Be MindfulWhat Are you Sharing?
- Do not Post any confidential information about yourself, your friends or family. Telephone numbers, home addresses should stay private and only for real friends.
-Do not use FourSquare check ins or Facebook Places to show when you are at home or at places like ATMs.
- Think twice before posting untrue, R-rated, suggestive photos and videos; once they’re on the web, they’re out there forever. This can affect you or your friend getting a job or into a university. Be Smart.
Just How Social Are you?
. Use appropriate language and be courteous online.
. Don’t mindlessly pass along chain letters/stories/scams/photos/videos that “everyone” is looking at. This could happen to you. So ignore or delete.
.Don’t engage in bullying or gossiping of friends in school or at work. Because you are online alot more people see it, share it and this just isn’t smart.
.Do Not talk to anyone above your age and grade - advise your parent or older sibling if anyone approaches you inappropriately online, even if you know the person. Better to be Smart and Safe, than Sorry.
