Background


Reimagine is an annual two-day Microsoft South Africa conference focused on the Microsoft Dynamics product suite. It attracts approximately 500 existing and potential CRM customers. As the Platinum sponsor for the event, Mint wanted to develop a mobile application for delegates to have access to the event programme, making it easy for them to schedule the keynotes and discussion tracks they wanted to attend.

The Challenge


Oliver Smit, solutions architect at Mint, says the focus of the app would be the content the company was using for the conference and geared towards its business. “The app would provide a way for Mint to drive what was happening around the conference. Things like our social feeds, time tables, and even the presentations would be incorporated. I came up with the design based on previous conferences I have attended and applied a few additional things to make it interactive and useful,” he says. The app had various sections such as marketing, social media, and feedback. Thanks to Microsoft Azure mobile services, Mint was able to easily scrape content from all Reimagine sources to include in the app. “We had to develop the app quickly. The power of the Azure platform enabled us to do so and very effectively come up with an innovative solution to be used at the conference. The most challenging process was getting it into the app stores of the respective platforms but that was mostly from a timing perspective,” says Smit.

Solution


Thanks to Microsoft Azure, the app provided delegates with all the necessary information on their mobile devices. This made the flow of the conference easier as delegates were able to structure their sessions. “We had lots of positive feedback from the conference and have already received a few requests to develop similar apps for other events. Azure really helped to integrate the various components and content very effectively for a great user experience,” says Smit.
