understand correctly. Answer: the web sites are fully functional after the trial, but look at the features the free sites get to make sure they

meet your needs. Scroll down to features by tier: http://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/web-sites/. For example you can't use a custom domain.

health or school site that is already hosted? Answer: In general, yes. You would have to look at all of the components (databases, file usage, etc). But a regular

website, yes.

that is office 365 or outlook.com. If you mean your app sends emails, then yes.

DNS? Answer: yes, when it is free. I stepped it up one above free so I could use my customer domain name. The pricing is

so cheap, it hasn't been an issue.

Domains are used for rolling out updates (by you or azure). You can have as many UD as you want (well, there is a limit somewhere). These domains are orthogonal. So if there is a fault (power outage?) during an update, you don't lose ALL of your stuff, just half or a third.

Developers? Answer: Hosting mailboxes would be on Office365, which isn't my specialty. It is a product that runs on top of Azure

though.

deploying on one will automatically deploy on others? Answer: You deploy once, and we replicate to all the servers, using the rolling update domains so it happens over a

short window of time. You can reduce the number of UD to shorten this, but then that exposes you to more downtime risk. You can also do VIP swaps, which they will get to soon. This is where you deploy to a second set of machines, and then swap them at the load balancer when the code is ready.

Also, any app, on any server, needs to have its own protection, for example detecting and throttling a bad acting IP address. This is often at the IIS/Apache level, and not in the web site itself.

Storage for critical events. Answer: Yes, with azure diagnostics, you can grab event log stuff and store it in azure storage.

11:32:53 PDT Question: Does Azure's load balancer work similar to F5 Networks? So if I develop in Azure I can be assured that it

will run on premise using F5? Answer: Yes, but depending on how a load balancer behaves is usually a bad smell to your architecture, it is a hint

you might be doing something 'wrong'. The LB is non-sticky though. Too many customers run their on-premises LB in sticky mode, and this is usually because the web site is built poorly.
