History – Pure Michigan 1990 - Barb Koscak & Rick Simms; Project STARS – Selfridge ANG Base 1991 - 3 Year Grant - WK Kellogg Foundation 1993 - Congress allocated funds to expand - Now DOD STARBASE 2010 - STARBASE 2.0 launched Purpose - Engage and encourage fifth grade students into the possibilities related to STEM * National problem – The U.S. is not producing enough engineers, scientists, and computer experts. Target Audience – At risk, rural, and underserved student populations Philosophy: Hands-on, Minds-on with relevant real world applications while focusing on a strong teamwork emphasis Curriculum: Based on national standards School obligations: Class need of 20 – 30 students; Transportation; Lunch; Teacher + one chaperone

Evaluations include the following: Pre and post-test, National test, Spectrum visits, Annual financial audit and physical inventory, Teacher and parent interviews, Teacher evaluations local and national Outreach: Miller College until 2016 Kellogg Community College Western College of Aviation Friends of STARBASE Battle Creek STARBASE 2.0 impacting Battle Creek and Hastings Public Schools Longitudinal Studies Demonstrations Presentations
