Michael Jordan

Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963 in Brooklyn, New York.Michaels parents are Deloris Peoples and James Jordan.Michaels family moved to Wilmington, North Carolina when he was very young.

Jordan attended Emsley A. Laney High School where he played football, baseball, and basketball.Michael tried out for his Varsity basketball team when he was a Sophomore, but at 511 he was told he was too short. Motivated to prove his worth, Jordan became the star of his junior varsity squad and tallied SEVERAL 40 point games.As a senior, Jordan was selected to the McDonalds All-American Team after averaging a triple double: 29.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 10.1 assists.

Despite being recruited by numerous basketball programs, including Duke, Syracuse, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, MJ chose North Carolina.

As a freshman, Jordan was named ACC Freshman of the Year after he averaged 13.4 points per game on 53.4% shooting.During his 3 seasons at North Carolina, Jordan averaged 17.7 points per game on 54.0% shooting, and added 5 rebounds per game. Jordan left North Carolina a year before graduation to join the 1984 NBA Draft where he was selected by the Chicago Bulls as the 3rd overall pick!During Jordans first season in the NBA, he averaged 28.2 points per game on 51.5% shooting.Even though Jordan was new to the NBA, he quickly became a fan favorite, even in opposing arenas!Jordan appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated with the heading A Star Is Born just over a month into his professional career.Jordans second season in the pros was cut short due to a broken foot in the 3rd game of the season, causing him to miss 64 games.Jordan has the record for the most points scored in a playoff game (63) against a 1986-87 Boston Celtics team that is often considered the best in NBA History.Jordan was known as Air Jordan because of his outstanding dunks.During the 1986-87 season, Jordan had one of the best scoring seasons in NBA History by scoring 3,000 points in a single season.Jordan became the first player in NBA history to record 200 steals and 100 blocks in a season.Jordan led the league in scoring in the 1987-88 season, averaging 35.0 points per game on 53.5% shooting.Jordan was named the Defensive Player of the Year during the 1987-88 season averaging 1.6 blocks and a league high of 3.16 steals per game.In 1991, Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won the NBA Finals, which made MJ very emotional.Jordan and the Bulls went on to win the NBA Finals consecutively 3 times. (1991-93)On October 6, 1993, Jordan announced his retirement from basketball but later signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox on February 7, 1994.On March 18, 1995, Jordan announced his return to the NBA through a two-word press release: Im back. Since his number 23 had been retired, he wore the number 45.After Nick Johnson from the Orlando Magic commented Jordan didnt look like the old Michael Jordan, Jordan returned to wearing number 23.The year after Jordan returned to the Bulls from retirement (1995) they went on to win 3 more NBA Finals in a row. (1995-1998)Jordan retired once again but returned on January 19, 2000 to the NBA not as a player, but as part owner and President of Basketball Operations for the Washington Wizards.On September 25, 2001, Jordan announced his return to the NBA to play for the Washington Wizards.
