MIAMI BEACH Policies and Procedures Requirements for Certified Contractors POLICY The Department ensures that contractors working in the City of Miami Beach are properly licensed and insured according to the procedures below. PROCEDURE Every contractor working in the City must file valid, updated copies of his/her license ( s ) and insurance ( s ) with the Department before they can obtain a permit or perform work. All contractors may be licensed in Miami-Dade County, the State of Florida, and other municipalities. Below are the license and insurance requirements for general contractors. State Certified Contractors State certified contractors must provide a copy of each of the following licenses and insurances: • State Certification • Local Business Tax Receipt ( Occupational License) for place of business ( Miami- Dade or Broward Counties ) • Certificate of insurance for workers' compensation and liability. o Certificate of Liability Insurance must be issued to:

o Insurance must show the following information:
■ Name of insured, Type of policy issued, and Type of insurance
■ Policy number, Effective date, and Expiration date
o Liability Insurance with no less than $300,000 per accident or occurrence for
bodily injury and $50,000 per accident for property damage
To register a contractor in EnerGov, enter the new contractor's information under the "Contact
Mgmt" module, fill the corresponding fields, enter the licenses under "Certifications", and
specify the roles of each entered name under the "Contact Roles" module.
Once a contractor is saved in the database with the City of Miami Beach, Building
Department, the contractor can register in CAP ( Citizen Access Portal) to follow the progress
of her/his permits, call and cancel inspections, and make payments online from any device
with internet access. Every year, contractors need to submit their renewed Local Business
Tax, Municipal License, and Certificate of Competency by September 30th. State licenses'
renewals are to be submitted by August 31.
