Colonel Dennis C. Brown commissioned from OCS in February 1985 as a Chemical Corps Officer. He served as a Project Officer, Aide-de-camp, and a Branch Chief prior to transferring to the Medical Service Corps in May 1989. He served as a Hazardous Waste Project Officer in the Waste Disposal Engineering Division, US Army Environmental Hygiene Agency, in Edgewood Arsenal, Maryland from May 1989 through December 1990. After the AMEDD Advance Course, he served as Project Officer at the 10th Medical Laboratory in Landstuhl, Germany from July 1991 through March 1993. While serving in Germany, COL Brown deployed to Croatia as part of Joint Task Force Provide Promise (Forward) under the United Nations Protection Force (UNPROFOR) from April to October 1993. While in Croatia, he served as the Chief of Preventive Medicine (PM) for the Joint Task Force and UNPROFOR PM Officer. Upon his return to 10th Medical Laboratory, he served as the Chief of the Environmental Health Engineering Division until June 1994. He attended the University of Texas- Austin from August 1994 through June 1996. He assumed command of the 38th Medical Detachment, Yongsan, Korea in June 1996. After two years of command, he served as the Force Health Protection Officer for US Joint Forces Command in Norfolk, VA from August 1998 through September 1999. On October 1, 1999, he was assigned as the Deputy Surgeon to the newly-established Joint Task Force Civil Support (JTF- CS) until July 2001. Moving to serve as the lead Joint Medical Planner to JTF-CS Joint Planning Group, he assisted in planning DOD support in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. From August 2003 through July 2005, he served as Commander, Joint Technical Augmentation Cell at Fort Monroe, Virginia. From July 2005 to July 2007, he served as Commander, US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine- North at Ft Meade, MD. After his Senior Service College Fellowship at the Department of Health and Human Services headquarters in Washington, D.C., he was assigned as the Deputy Surgeon at US Army Central/3rd Army in Atlanta, GA from July 2008 to June 2011.
