Metso Total Solids Measurement Metso TS – reliable total solids measurement system for waste water plantsFor more than ten years Metso’s microwave-based solid content transmitters have been used in the process industry for highly demanding applications.

Metso TS has been developed from third generation microwave solids transmitters, combining cost-efficiency with the extreme accuracy of microwave technology. The new transmitter meets the needs of wastewater treatment plants – with no compromises in accuracy.

The 400 references in global waste water industry speak for the excellence.

Technical specification briefly:Measurement range: 0 - 40 TS%Sensitivity: 0.001 TS%Repeatability: 0.01 TS%Sensor sizes: PN16 DN50, 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 PN 100 DN100, 150, 200

Technical benefits:In wastewater processes, microwave technology has many advantages over other types of total solids measurements: • The start-up and calibration performed within a

few minutes. • No reaction to changes in the composition of

solids, thus allowing reliable single-point calibra-tion.

• No moving parts, therefore practically mainte-nance-free.

• Impurities on the ceramic measurement antenna have minimal impact on results, due to representa-tive method of measurement.

• Other selectable current output signal: either process temperature or process conductivity (ref. specifications)

Applications

Sludge pumping from primary & secondary sedimentations / Feed to Thickening Sludge pumping control based on reliable total solids measurement, and thus optimizing sludge quality early on in the process, is vital for the whole sludge handling procedure.

Digester feed Maintaining a high, optimized total solids content in the sludge entering the digesters helps to achieve better process control and significant savings. Sludge digestion time can be increased to produce more biogas.

Dewatering Significant savings can be achieved through better dewatering control: a reliable total solids measure-ment helps to optimize polymer dosing and thus reduce polymer costs.

Dry Cake The Metso TS can be installed in the feed line to the incinerator, immediately after the sludge cake pump.

Metso TS benefits: • Lower energy consumption in dewatering, better

utilization rate in energy production • Higher pumping capacity means higher water

processing volumes and helps to postpone investments

• Better utilization of solids transportation capacity • Lower polymer consumption • Highly efficient use of dewatering centrifuges • Less laboratory analysis • Provides higher solids content in sludge

Metso Low Solids MeasurementMetso LS – low solids measurement system for waste water plants

Metso LS continuously measures:• Total Suspended Solids (TSS) 0...5000 mg/l, for

higher concentrations, please contact Metso • Entrained air index – Indicates polymer overdosing

BenefitsSuspended solids measurement and control of polymer• Facilitates centrifuge optimization and provides

improved performance.

• Better control over recycling materials: a high solids rate in the reject water causes the excess centrate solids to be needlessly and potentially harmfully treated and centrifuged several times

• Facilitates polymer dosage.• Decreases costs resulting from polymer dosage

and centrifuge usage.

Designed for municipal and industrial waste water treatment plants, Metso LS continu-ously, reliably and accurately measures solids in very small concentrations. The system is primarily designed to measure the amount of suspended solids in reject water (filtered water) coming from the dewatering unit (centrifuge or belt filter press). The measurement is used to monitor and optimize drainage (devices and polymer). Metso LS also monitors air amount in the samples, which effectively prevents polymer overdosing.

Metso LS measurement is based on Metso’s 20 years of experience in developing advanced optical measurements.

Customer ROI• Polymer savings• Process optimization• Improved throughput• Improved centrifuge functionality• Dryer output solids from the centrifuge:• lower transit costs when shipping to landfill • facilitates material burning

• Reduced laboratory/sampling work• Faster polymer test runs • Polymer type optimization

ROI exampleDepending on process capacity, the return of investment can be as short as one year. The resulting savings are based on avoiding polymer overdosing and reducing the solids recycling back

into the process. Based on our experience, the savings resulting from decreased polymer costs can be as high as 30%. Please contact Metso to discuss savings possibilities in your process.
