- 4 -What happens when I eat?
Our bodies are made up of tiny building blocks called cells. These cells are alive so they need food. The food for my cells comes from what I eat. My cells need nutrients such as protein, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals, fats, and water. All the food I eat contains some nutrients. Different foods have different nutrients and in different amounts. After chewing and swallowing, my stomach breaks down the food. As my food digests, the nutrients are absorbed. Once the nutrients are chemically changed, the blood carries them to the cells. The cells use the nutrients for growth, repair and energy. Eating a variety of good foods helps provide the needed nutrients for my cells.
1.) What do the cells of your body need?

2.) What is in food that your cells use?

“Inches measure things I see. Calories measure energy.”
