Strath Wood, CEO of the Chemspec group created Chemspec Industrial Park to enable the consolidation of four manufacturing sites under one roof, as well as ensuring successful integration of the administrative arms. After reviewing options for several years, this site is perfectly suited to the needs of the rapid growth the Chemspec group is enjoying via international successes.

Chemspec Industrial Park boasts a manufacturing and processing plant that is over half a kilometre long, with fully integrated, computer-based PLC manufacture. Coupled with a state-of-the-art despatch area with eight pneumatic loading bays, the plant has tremendous capacity to cater for the rapidly expanding production needs.

The integration of the previous four manufacturing factories achieves economies of scale, which further improves the company’s ability to be price competitive in global markets, while increasing quality.

The building of a new resin manufacturing plant on the site are at an advanced stage, which will increase efficiencies, having the capability of producing 100 tons of resin per day.

METALUX 2 COLOUR SWATCH UNITWith over 12,000 actual paint swatch spray-outs, the Metalux 2 Colour Unit has the world’s largest collection of colour swatches. The unit is fully integrated with EasiMix Professional Software, making this complete package superior to the leading European automotive paint systems. Colour swatches featuring actual paint spray-outs have become the global standard for premium systems, as they enable the colour of the vehicle to be accurately matched even if it has faded from the original factory-spec colour formula. This tool alone can save up to half an hour per colour match. Accuracy is further endorsed with blank spray-out cards so the colour can be double-checked before actual spraying begins.

EASIMEASUREThe EasiMeasure, new generation Spectrophotometer provides easy click’n’go colour matching and is fully integrated with the swatches and EasiMix Professional Software. It reads the colour of the panel that needs to be matched and can store a phenomenal 65,000 international colours with direct reference to the corresponding swatch code and EasiMix codes for each colour.

All the colour tools are supplemented with support material such as system guides, system posters, safety data and training modules.

The heart of the Metalux CV system lies in the colour tools which are truly world-class. The recent adoption by Chemspec of the internationally-renowned NCS colour system from Sweden means that a further 1,750 paint colour swatches have been added to the existing 1,400 colour chips.

The benefits of these paint swatches should not be under estimated. Now matching a vehicle’s colour is as simple as placing swatches against a panel until a match is found, and then simply entering the code of the swatch into the computer driven system to retrieve the exact formula. No more material wastage, no more wasted time, and a lot of happy customers.

In all, there are colour formulations on the system for 5,000 colours - including some sophisticated metallics. Not only can bodyshops now offer their customers a huge array of colours, but they are enjoying the time-saving benefits of the colour tools. These improved efficiencies are increasing their profitability while offering their customers a superior product.

The Metalux CV Colourbox contains actual sprayouts of the formulations and are packaged in colouristic sequence. The colourbox is supported by a complete cross reference index and formula book, making it an invaluable tool in the bodyshop environment.

Chemspec’s philosophy is of value and innovation while maintaining environmental responsibility. The Metalux 2 range is already a low VOC, eco-friendly product, however true to their philosophy, Chemspec has gone a step further with their Hydrolux range.

HYDROLUXThe conception of Chemspec’s Hydrolux range is testament to this, as a waterbased automotive basecoat system developed with the latest raw material technology. The extended shelf life, drying time, temperature stability and remarkable pricing are all contributing factors setting the Hydrolux basecoat system apart from other waterborne products. The range is backed by the 4 Life Paint Warranty and is fully compatible with the Metalux 2 range. The Hydrolux system consists of 67 toners, binder, stabilized clear and thinners.

UV TECHNOLOGYLong expensive drying times are eradicated by the new UV Cured Primer and Clearcoat from the Metalux 2 range. With a drying time of under two minutes using a standard UV lamp, spot repair time is dramatically reduced and profitability increased. These two new products are fully compatible with the Metalux 2 system and feature a high solid content. Surface adhesion is so good that the primer is suitable for rigid plastics, as well as aluminium and galvanized metals.

The combination of Chemspec’s R&D team in the USA and South Africa‘s technical department enable them to confidently develop ‘greener’ products.

DESCRIPTION: UV Cured Primer is the latest in technology providing an Ultra high building product that cures in two minutes, using appropriate ultra violet light, as defined in “Equipment” area. This product is easy to sand while providing maximum colour holdout with no shrinkage of film after cure.

SUITABLE SUBSTRATES: - Properly cleaned steel, aluminium, and galvanized steel.- Thoroughly sanded and cured paint adjoining metal at feather edge.- Cured body filler.- Rigid and semi-rigid plastics using AP100 Plastic Cleaner and AP200 Plastic Adhesion

Promoter.SURFACE PREPARATION: NOTE: Be sure to completely remove all rust or oxidation prior to applying primer.

Bare Substrates: Solvent clean with TH5950 Strong Wax & Grease Remover or TH5951 Mild Wax & Grease Remover. Finish sand with 180 grit sandpaper. Re-clean to remove sanding residue with TH5950 Strong Wax and Grease Remover. TH5950 Cleaner and a red scuff pad may be used to remove light surface oxidation on aluminium. Follow by re-cleaning the aluminium with TH5950 Strong Wax & Grease Remover.

Pre-painted Substrates: Wash the surface with mild detergent and hot water, making sure to rinse well and dry with a clean, dry cloth. Solvent clean with TH5950 Strong Wax & Grease Remover or TH5951 Mild Wax & Grease Remover. Sand repair area and featheredge as needed, finishing with 320 grit sandpaper. Re-clean repair with TH5952 Fast Evaporating Final Cleaner to remove sanding residue before priming. On larger areas, the use of TH5951 Mild Wax & Grease Remover may be desired.

MIXING RATIO: Product is ready to spray; however, if trying to produce a “thin blend edge” result—reduce (only) with UVR02 UV Reducer up to10%. Do not mix in direct sunlight or around direct UV light. Always close containers as quickly as possible.

TINTING: Not recommended.

POT LIFE: No pot life restrictions.

ADDITIVES: Not recommended.

PRIMER APPLICATION: Shake or stir product before use. Be sure that primer is thoroughly mixed. Apply over properly prepared and cleaned surfaces. Apply in light coats until build is desired or 2 to 3 wet coats. Product is slightly transparent, do not apply to full hiding. In 2 to 3 wet coats, film build will average 5-6 mils wet. If a second application of UV Primer Surfacer is needed, fully cure and sand before applying additional material. Total maximum dry film should not exceed 14 mils. Coverage is very deceptive.

UV CURING: Apply product, allow a two (2) minute flash off prior to exposing to UV curing light. Position the UV lamp at 6-12” from surface and expose the primer for two (2) minutes to UV light. For maximum performance, a UV curing lamp is preferred. If curing with natural sunlight, up to 20 minutes may be necessary for complete curing. Light intensity will affect curing and adhesion. Overcast days will hinder curing with natural sunlight. Final sanding using 400 - 600 grit before applying topcoat. Re-clean repair with TH5952 Fast Evaporating Final Cleaner to remove sanding residue before top coating.

DRYING TIME: Dry to Sand: 5 – 6 minutes using UV LampsDrying time to topcoat: As soon as sanding and cleaning are done.
