From the Desk of VicarEducation DayThis year the Mar Thoma Church has set apart September 2nd as Education Sunday. It is an occasion for thanksgiving and to pray for our work in the field of education. In our parish we are observing

Education is universally recognized as one of the most fundamental building blocks for human development and that is one of the reasons why our Sabha is giving prominence to Education while witnessing Christ’ Love through Evangelism.

Teachers have an influencing role in the life of every student. They are like beacons of light, guiding us in the formative years of our life. Teachers mould us and in the process and shape our future. What we learn from our teachers remains with us, throughout our life.

Teacher’s Day is observed on different dates in different countries of the world. In India, Teacher’s Day (also called Teachers’ Appreciation Day or National Teacher’s Day) is celebrated on 5th of September, every year. The date was selected, because it is the birthday of a timeless teacher and the former President of India - Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. When some of his students and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, “instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if September 5th is observed as Teacher’s day”. From then onwards, the 5th of September has been observed as Teachers Day, in India.

Remember in your prayers, the blessings our Educational Institutions and those who worked there have given us. May God bless all our endeavors in the field of education.

Sevika Sangham DayMar Thoma Sabha is observing 9th Sept. 2012 as The Savika Sangham Day. TheMar Thoma Suvishesha Sevika Sangham was established in1919 during the Maramon convention under the leadership of Bishop Abraham Mar Thoma. The Sangham’s motto is “Service and Evangelism through active participation of women believers.” This organization owes much to the self sacrificing work of Mrs. Kandamma Varghese, who worked untiringly as the organizing secretary for over 20 years traveling far and wide, organizing branches in parishes and performing evangelistic work among Christians and non-Christians. Training women for evangelization, bringing relief to the needy, providing medical help through medical missions, running hostels for working women and spreading the Gospel through Mission centers in and outside Kerala are the prime means through which, the Sevika Sangam has been providing remarkable service to the Lord.

This year our parish has set apart 21st September as Savika Sangham Day. Our parish is blessed with a very active and dedicated Sevika Sangham. It has regular prayer meetings and study classes in every Saturday. They are involved in lot of mission related activates. May the Lord be glorified through the activities of our Sevika Sangham.

Senior Citizens’ SundayWe have set apart Sunday 16th September as “Senior Citizens’ Sunday”. This is truly an auspicious day to honor the senior members amidst us by recognizing their faithful & laudable services imparted towards the well being of the church as a whole. In our parish we are celebrating 28th September as Senior Citizens’ Day.

Long life is a gift of God. “With long life, I will satisfy them” (Psalm 91:16). We should not let our elders, who have made valuable contributions to the Church and society be ignored in their old age. The generation that cares for its aged, is blessed.

The aged members of the Church should share their experiences and ideals with the new generation. Just as old Simeon took baby Jesus in his arms, satisfied for having seen God’s salvation, may God enable our older generation to be gratified by passing on their knowledge and godly wisdom to the younger generation.
