Message from the President Perry Clarke, President Dear Fellow Employees; First, I would like to wish all of you a Happy Holiday Season and all the best in the New Year for you and your families. While I was watching television, one evening, an actor made a powerful statement that I would like to share with you, and I quote; “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbled or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the man who is actually in the arena, whose face is marred by dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly; who error's and comes short again and again; who knows great enthusiasms, the great devotions; who spends himself in a worthy cause; who at best, knows in the end the triumph of high achievement, and who, at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly so that his place shall never be with those timid souls who neither know victory nor defeat". As many of you are aware, in 1990, I left the military and commenced my career as a Security Officer in Winnipeg with Securitas. I was able to move up within the company, but can assure you, that over the years I have failed many times, while also sharing in the successes with many of my fellow Securitas employees. As we move into 2016, I would like for you to remember the above quote, and to not hesitate to embrace an opportunity to succeed, when it presents itself to you as I am also confident, that you can succeed. So in 2016 show your Branch Manager and Area Vice President that you possess what it takes to move up within Securitas. Again, thank you for all your hard work, dedication and commitment that you continue to display on a daily basis. Someone You Should Know Trevor Thompson, Area Vice President, Eastern Canada, Shawn Deeley, Branch Manager Eastern Canada
Site Supervisor Jonathan Pickard has proven that he embodies what Securitas Canada stands
for “Integrity, Vigilance and Helpfulness.” Just 22 years old he exhibits an exemplary level of
maturity and a great work ethic. Jonathan has worked as a full time Security Officer at one of
our retail sites in Fredericton, New Brunswick
since February 1st, 2014 and was promoted to
Site Supervisor just over a year ago.
One of Jonathan’s duties this past summer was
“Paw Patrol” which consisted of patrolling the
parking lot, keeping watch for animals locked
inside hot vehicles. Jonathan was there every
shift keeping an eye out for suffering animals, and
found three animals in distress during the August
15th weekend. During this weekend alone, Site
Supervisor Pickard was able to save three animals,
taking great pride and providing a valuable service
to all.
Site Supervisor Pickard continued to show
excellent performance and sprang into action on August 25th, 2015 when a customer at the
mall collapsed. The man was unconscious, not breathing, and had no pulse. Jonathan began
CPR while an off duty police officer stopped to assist him. Staying calm and thinking quickly
Jonathan brought out the defibrillator and started using it on the gentleman in distress. Once
the paramedics arrived, they took over with EMS stating “that if it was not for SS Pickard the
man would not have made it.”
Jonathan has done Securitas and himself much to be proud of so let us take this opportunity to
celebrate him and the excellent leadership he has shown. Thank you Jonathan, wishing you
much continued success!!!
Service Notes
2015 Security Officer of the Year for Performance
Ali Hirse, Greater Toronto and Southern Ontario Area
S/O Ali Hirse joined Securitas in May of 2012 and is
now currently employed full time at one of our
customer sites.
Over the years Ali has progressed from being an on-
call S/O, to a permanent site leader who has built
long-lasting relationships with the client, his tenants,
coworkers, and the Securitas family.
Known at our client site as “a guy you can count on”
for being there for you, even when he isn’t physically
on call. During a terrible Toronto ice storm Ali
coordinated communications for staff to ensure
operations ran smoothly and did not cease. He services a building with multiple tenants, all who enjoy
Ali’s service and know him to be consistently dependable”.
Ali as a guard works proactively, resulting in high customer satisfaction and we at Securitas Canada look
forward to offering Ali the stepping stone he needs in life for continued growth to reach his ultimate
career path of becoming an OPP officer”
By applying our fundamental values of Integrity, Vigilance, and Helpfulness, Ali plays a key role within
Securitas Canada. We really do believe People Make the Difference and on December 9th
, 2015
honoured Ali with the 2015 Security Officer of the Year award for Performance. Congratulations Ali!
2015 Security Officer of the Year for Heroism
Pauline Johnston, Western Canada
S/O Pauline Johnston is currently employed full
time at a site with vulnerable individuals as
clientele. Pauline is known for her exceptional
service and positive attitude for her site and
more importantly with their clients. Pauline has
been observed as being very cordial and inviting
to all clients as they enter the building
acknowledging them with a smile and a “good
morning/good afternoon” without showing any
discrimination towards anyone.
She takes her job very seriously but at the same
time shows just the right amount of empathy and understanding for everyone.
During one of Pauline’s shifts in October she took note that she hadn’t seen an elderly client that usually
comes in daily in a while. Concerned she asked the Alberta support staff to check in on him. The
support staff called the apartment and then did a wellness check. Upon entering they found the elderly
man on the floor of his apartment and he had in fact been there for at least five days. The EMS were
called and he was taken to the hospital…surviving the horrible ordeal, in great part due to Security Officer
Pauline Johnston.
On December 9th
, 2015 Security Officer Pauline Johnston was honoured with the 2015 Security Officer
of the Year award for Heroism. Congratulations Pauline. Truly great work!

Anniversary Recognition Program is
designed to formally recognize
employees on key anniversary
dates. Employee recognition, be it
for number of years of service or for
other reasons, is a crucial
component of employee motivation.
Taking the time to recognize an
employee goes a long way towards
strengthening both employee and
client relationships. Our clients
appreciate the fact that Securitas
understands and demonstrates that
people make the difference!
The Employee Anniversary
Recognition Program is to be
administered locally by each Area
and should include an Employee
anniversary recognition pin
(available for one, three and five-
year anniversaries and every five
years after that), an employee award
certificate and a congratulations
letter to the employee. This
