MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT As we come to the close of our pulling season, I would like to thank you all for making it great. We have had a lot of team work in the pulling arenas under the leadership of Mike Rivard and Chris Folsom. These two gentlemen have done an exceptional job with getting the bus, drag and all the equipment needed to hold the pulls set up and ready for the pulling demonstrations/competitions to take place. Our drag has been working perfectly since undergoing a bit of work this past spring, which certainly adds to the fun of pulling. Emily Folsom and Sherry Blaisdell complement our leadership team with their announcing, record keeping and reporting. Their dedication to the MATC is also highly appreciated. It takes us all working together while having fun with our old tractors in order to have a productive club. Good luck to all our pullers at our last scheduled pull of the season at the Cumberland Fair, Monday, September 25th. Hope to see you there! —Pam PRESIDENT Pam Vaillancourt 110 Cross Rd, Anson, ME 04911 (207) 431-2718 • [email protected] VICE PRESIDENT Matthew Hunter 17 Nash Drive, Chelsea, ME 04330 (207) 622-6608 • [email protected] SECRETARY Emily Folsom 33 Hale Pond Rd, Wiscasset, ME 04578 (207) 350-0179 • [email protected] TREASURER Evelyn Twist 14 Ward Brook Rd, Wiscasset, ME 04578 (207) 323-6646 • [email protected] NEWSLETTER EDITOR Jennifer Libby 220 Eames Rd, Winslow, ME 04901 [email protected] WEBMASTER Burl Ewell 48 Serenity Dr, W. I have a correction to make from the last newsletter; I reported that the Common Ground Fair was going to pay us the difference in what we made for tips to equal $1500/day, which was incorrect. When I reported that, it was only in negotiation and had not yet been agreed upon. I apologize for the misunderstanding. The Oxford Hills Chamber of Commerce has invited us to join them in their Christmas parade on November 25th. The theme is the 12 Days of Christmas. More info will come as it gets closer. John Hilton was prepared to make two trips to Hodgdon to bring back materials for the coliseum, but Skip Woodworth generously volunteered to take his truck and trailer up with John so they could get everything in one trip. They split the gas money and John was grateful he didn’t have to go up a second day. The secretary and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted. Mike Rivard reported that there was a good turnout at the Blue Hill and Clinton pulls. Six of our member attended the tractor pull in Springfield hosted by the Northern Maine Antique Tractor Club. Mike also reported that there have been two lawn and garden tractor pulls since the new coliseum went up and were great. The Land and Building Committee reported that the coliseum took 5 days to build and looks beautiful. Blaine Nuite brought his boom machine to help lift and set the beams and trusses, and Bob Clark brought a couple pieces of his machinery to help with ground work. Thank you to you both for helping so much, we all appreciate it. The coliseum came in slightly under budget at $59,883.41, plus the ground work at $5,500. On September 17th, there was a celebration at the land with a ribbon cutting ceremony, the oats were harvested, and a BBQ lunch was served. All the banners to honor those who donated trusses were hung for everyone to see; they will be taken down to be stored for the winter, but will be hung back up in the spring. The coliseum is a nice addition to our land and will be fun to host pulls. COMMITTEE REPORTS The Committee met on September 13th at the clubhouse .

The pulling coliseum was constructed in 5 days by the Martinez Family from August 14th thru the 18th, with help from Bob Clark with his bucket loader and Blaine Nuite and his lift. The bank loan has been finalized and our contractors have been paid. Insurance has been purchased from Kyes Insurance Company for our property and buildings. Truss banners have been ordered and are now hanging in the coliseum. A celebration is planned for September 17th to harvest the oat crop, a ribbon cutting ceremony, and catered BBQ from 1:00-4:30pm with invitations extended to truss donors. All club members are invited. Bob Clark, John Hilton, and Bill Clark are looking for gravel and clay to be added to far end of the pulling area to level out a low area left after construction. Our club bus, wagon, and other equipment will be stored under the coliseum for the winter months. Due to some changes, the Common Ground Fair has decided to use their own personnel to haul their people movers at the September 22-24th, 2017 fair. Our club’s request to have the fair contribute an amount, which included the people mover tips, to equal $1500 per day was rejected, as the fair did not have this in their budget. The fair manager also explained that due to unpredictable weather, the tractors and people mover would no longer be used on Crosby Road gate; if it rains and the tractors stop running, fair goers get stranded, so buses will be used. This run was our clubs busiest, which in turn accounted for the most tips. Common Ground Fair will contact the MATC should they decide to use our service in the future.

Arthur Hertell’s open barn did not disappoint with a slew of John Deere memorabilia and equipment, new and old. The decision was made to go with Kyes insurance with a yearly premium of $1,394.55. The Common Ground Fair has decided to use other means of getting their fair goers up ‘the hill’, one the places our people movers usually does which is also the most profitable. They also decided that it was not in their budget to pay us the difference in what we receive in tips to equal $1500 a day. A motion was made that we as a club do not participate in the people mover at the Common Ground Fair this year unless another financial arrangement is made or they allow us to man ‘the hill’, motion passed. Pam is going to reach out to the board of the Common Ground Fair to see what can be done.

A reminder that the election of officers is coming up quickly, nominations are to be made in November with a vote in December. A motion was made to transfer the $398 it costs for

the raffle tractor tickets from the raffle tractor savings account to the checking account to keep the raffle tractor self-sustaining, motion passed. Matt Hunter found a men’s size medium plaid shirt on his trailer from the Clinton fair, he is looking for its owner. A motion passed to give John Blaisdell the oats from the land as a thank you for all the work he has done to get the ground worked and the oats planted. John Hilton asked that we recognize Bob Clark for bringing his equipment and being at the land to help out every day while the ground work was being done and the coliseum was going up. A motion was made that we pay Bob the $500 he saved us in ground work as a thank you for the use of his equipment, the motion passed.

Chris and I won’t be at the October meeting, so we will see you in November. Happy Fall everyone!

Respectfully yours, Emily Folsom, Secretary

Spedex, stick steering, pull start tractor. It was my Ggrandfather’s and he used it to mow, garden, and plow snow. It has many attachments. Its been sitting for 20+ years. A mechanic friend started it up 4-5 years ago, but it leaks oil. He thought it might need a head-gasket. It is located in Bethel, Maine. Priced to sell. Call Robin Fiske at 207-381-7968.
