MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT MICHAEL D. HIGGINS

I am delighted to send my best wishes to the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland and to all those involved in the ‘Peace Proms’ 2020.

For almost two decades now the CBOI have been using the beautiful medium of music to bring together young people from all parts of Ireland, both North and South. It is truly special to listen to the voices of so many talented young singers as they unite together so beautifully in a spirit of peace and understanding.

I thank the CBOI for their continued dedication to this wonderful and imaginativeinitiative, and I wish them every success with Peace Proms 2020.

CROSS BORDER ORCHESTRA OF IRELAND– BACKGROUNDThe Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland (CBOI) was established in 1995 as a peace initiative and is composed of over 100 exceptionally talented young musicians from all over Ireland and Northern Ireland. Over the past 25 years, the CBOI has played an important role in building and nurturing vital cross border and cross community relations. The CBOI is conductor by one of the UK’s most celebrated and outstanding young conductors, Mr. Greg Beardsell.

As the orchestra of first choice for National celebrations and commemorations, the CBOI had the honour of officially launching the Ireland 2016 State Commemorations with a showcase performance at the Convention Centre Dublin on January 1st 2016. Heather Humphreys Minister for Arts said that the CBOI sends a “powerful message about the kind of Country Ireland has become 100 years on, while also showcasing some of our most talented young people who give us hope and ambition for the future.”

CBOI has also had the honor of performing for Queen Elizabeth II at Hillsborough Castle and for USA President Barack Obama at the White House, Washington D.C. in 2016.

This internationally acclaimed and award winning youth orchestra has performed to sell out audiences at all major venues in Ireland, and many throughout the world including Carnegie Hall, New York; the Royal Albert Hall, London; Boston Symphony Hall; Chicago Symphony Hall; and the Oriental Arts Centre Shanghai where they won an international music award for “Outstanding Performance”.

The CBOI also plays a vital role in enhancing Music and Arts Education for young people through our Peace Proms program which has been described as ‘Ireland’s most valuable Arts Educationinitiative.’ Over 35,000 Primary School children from different social, economic, cultural, religious and political backgrounds throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland, actively participate in this programme.

The CBOI plays a unique blend of symphonic, traditional and folk music which evokes the rich heritage and culture of Ireland. The full symphony orchestra also incorporates traditional instruments for example Uilleann Pipes and Bagpipes. Our core message of universal peace is central to ourmusic and our message.

CBOI is a registered charity in Ireland: 20054892; the UK: XT22593 and the USA 260270, and is totally NOT-FOR-PROFIT. Originally funded through EU Peace Funds, the CBOI is now self-supporting and depends on the generosity of our sponsors. We are deeply indebted to all our supporters

for helping us to bring the joy on music and peace to children, families, schools and communities throughout the world.

MUSIC AND ARTS EDUCATION - PEACE PROMS

The CBOI plays a vital role in enhancing Music and Arts education in Ireland and the UK through ‘Peace Proms’. This year over 35,000 children will actively participate in our programme. Peace Proms celebrates culture and diversity and promotes peace, unity and tolerance through music.

Peace Proms engages children in music and enriches their lives through exceptional musical experiences and performances. Peace Proms makes the Arts more accessible to young people, their school, families and the wider community. Peace Proms can be used to raise awareness of issues surrounding racism, peace and reconciliation, multiculturalism, diversity and inclusivity.

The musical programme is tailor made to ensure it is fun and engaging for children, fulfills important educational requirements, is very rewarding to teach, and the end performance is an inspirational and thrilling experience for choirs, teachers, parents and audiences alike!

Peace Proms is for everyone. Whether your school choir is established or starting out, Peace Proms gives all choirs the once in a lifetime opportunity to:• Participle in a large-scale event which promotes peace, tolerance and unity• Sing with a choir of up to 3,000 children• Perform with a full symphony youth orchestra - the Cross Border Orchestra of Ireland. • Work with one of the UK’s leading professional conductors - Greg Beardsell and a host of top

soloists• Perform at the premier venues• Develop vocal technique, presentation and performance• Experience a variety of musical styles and genres

General Choreography Notes

• The choreography accompanying the Peace Proms songs is designed to enhance the music, to reflect the lyrics and to be fun, but never at the expense of singing beautifully.

• Good posture throughout is essential - feet firmly on floor, slightly spaced apart - weight evenly balanced.

• Hands are always held loosely by your sides.

• Most choreography is upper body only with feet firmly on the floor. Ensure there is no movement (or sound) with the feet. (There are some twisting actions, but foot

movement is minimised at all times).

• Movement should all be at the same level, i.e. to the shoulder, chest, head level as shown in the video.

• The movements are in the singer’s space only, never crossing over into the next singer’s space.

• All movement starts to the right or starts with the right hand, mirroring the video.

A Million Dreams from the Greatest Showman

I close my eyes and I can see a world that’s waiting up for me that I call my own. Through the dark, through the door, through where no one’s been before,

But it feels like home. They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy,They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind.

I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy, We can live in a world that we design.

‘Cause ev’ry night I lie in bed the brightest colours fill my head, A million dreams are keepin’ me awake.

I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see, A million dreams is all its gonna take.

Oh, a million dreams for the world we’re gonna make.

There’s a house we can build ev’ry room inside is filled with things from far away. Special things I compile, each one there to make you smile on a rainy day.

They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy, They can say, they can say we’ve lost our minds,

I don’t care, I don’t care, if they call us crazy. Run away to a world that we design.

‘Cause ev’ry night I lie in bed the brightest colours fill my head, A million dreams are keepin’ me awake.

I think of what the world would be, a vision of the one I see, A million dreams is all its gonna take.

Oh, a million dreams for the world we’re gonna make.

However big, however small, let me be part of it all. Share your dreams with me.

You may be right, you may be wrong, But say that you’ll bring me along to the world you see,

To the world I close my eyes to see, I close my eyes to see.

‘Cause ev’ry night I lie in bed the brightest colours fill my head, A million dreams are keepin’ me awake.

I think of what the world could be, a vision of the one I see, A million dreams is all its gonna take.

A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make.

For the world we’re gonna make.

Brothers in Arms

1ST VERSE - SOLOISTThese mist covered mountains are a home now for me,

But my home is the low lands and it always will be.

Some-day you’ll return to your valleys and your farms,

And you’ll no longer burn to be brothers in arms.

2ND VERSE - SOLOISTThrough these fields of destruction, baptisms of fire.

I’ve witnessed your suffering now as the battle raged higher.

And though you did hurt me so bad in the fear and alarm,

You did not desert me my brothers in arms.

My brothers in arms.

My brothers in arms.

There’s so many different worlds so many different suns,

And we have just one world but we live in different ones.

3RD VERSE CHILDREN & SOLOISTNow the suns gone to hell now but the moon’s riding high,

Let me bid you farewell now ‘cause ev’ry thing has to die.

But it’s written in the starlight and ev’ry line on your palm,

We’re fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

We’re fools to make war on our brothers in arms.

On our brothers in arms.

Let me share this whole new world with you.

I Just Can’t Wait To Be King

Hey! Hey! Hey! I’m gonna be a mighty king so enemies beware, I’ve never seen a king of beasts with quite so little hair.

I’m gonna be the ‘mane’ event like no king was before, I’m brushing up on looking down, I’m working on my ROAR!

Thus far a rather uninspiring thing! Oh I just can’t wait to be king.

No one saying “Do this”, no one saying “Be there”, No one saying “Stop that”, no one saying “See here”.

Free to run around all day. Free to do it all my way. Yay-e, E-oh, yay-e, e-oh, yay-e, e-oh, yay-e,

Ev’rybody look left, Ev’rybody look right,

Ev’ry where you look I’m….. standing in the spotlight. Not Yet! Let ev’ry creature go for broke and sing, Let’s hear it in the herd and on the wing,

It’s gonna be king Simba’s finest fling. Oh I just can’t wait to be king.

Oh he just can’t wait to be king. Oh I just can’t wait to be king.

Circle Of Life

It’s the circle of life, and it moves us all. Through despair and hope, through faith and love.

‘Till we find our place on the path unwinding, in the circle, The circle of life, circle of….. life.

Make Your Own Kind Of Music

Nobody can tell ya, there’s only one song worth singing. They may try and sell ya, ‘cause it hangs them up to see someone like you.

But you gotta,Make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song.

Make your own kind of music, Even if nobody else sings along.

You’re gonna be nowhere, the lonliest kind of lonely. It may be rough goin’, just to do your thing’s the hardest thing to do.

But you gotta,Make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song.

Make your own kind of music, Sven if nobody else sings along.

So if you cannot take my hand, and if you must be going I will understand. ‘Cause you gotta

Make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song.

Make your own kind of music, Even if nobody else sings along.

You gotta, Make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song.

Make your own kind of music, Sven if nobody else sings along.

You gotta, Make your own kind of music, Sing your own special song.

Make your own kind of music, Even if nobody else sings a-long.

High Hopes

Had to have high high hopes for a living, Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing,

Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision, Always had high high hopes.

Had to have high high hopes for a living, Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling,

I was gonna be that one in a million, Always had high high hopes.

Mama said… fulfil the prophecy, be something great go make a legacy. Manifest destiny,

Back in the days we wanted ev’rything, wanted ev’rything. Mama said…. burn your biographies rewrite your history,

Light up your wildest dreams, Museum victories,

Everyday we wanted ev’rything, wan-ted ev’rything. Mama said… don’t give up, it’s a little complicated.

All tied up no more love, and I’d hate to see you waiting. They say it’s all been done but they haven’t seen the best of me eh, eh eh.

So I got one more run and it’s gonna be a sight to see eh, eh, eh

Had to have high high hopes for a living, Shooting for the stars when I couldn’t make a killing,

Didn’t have a dime but I always had a vision, Always had high high hopes.

Had to have high high hopes for a living, Didn’t know how but I always had a feeling,

I was gonna be that one in a million, Always had high high hopes.

Queen Medley 2020

Radio GagaAll we hear is Radio gaga, Radio goo goo, Radio gaga, All we hear is Radio gaga, Radio goo goo, Radio gaga,

We watched the shows, we watched the stars, On videos for hours and hours.

We hardly need to use our ears. How music changes through the years. Let’s hope you never leave old friend,

Like all good things, on you we depend, So stick around ‘cos we might miss you, when we get tired, of all this visual.

You had your time, you had the power, You’ve yet to have your finest hour,

Radio, Radio.

All we hear is Radio gaga, Radio goo goo, Radio gaga, All we hear is Radio gaga, Radio goo goo, Radio gaga,

All we hear is Radio gaga, Radio blah blah. Radio what’s new?

Radio, someone still loves you.

We Are The ChampionsI’ve taken my bows, and my curtain calls,

You gave me fame and fortune and ev’rything that goes with it, I thank you all.

But it’s been no bed of roses, No plea-sure cruise.

I consider it a challenge before the whole human race And I ain’t gonna lose,

And I need to go on and on and on and on.

We are the champions my friends, And we’ll keep on fighting till the end.

We are the champions, We are the champions,

No time for losers ‘cause we are the champions, We are the champions my friends,

And we’ll keep on fighting till the end. We are the champions, We are the champions,

Not time for losers ‘cause we are the champions.

The Power of One

If I need a friend would you take my hand? Would you turn away? Or would you take a stand?

Would you leave me out? Or would you let me stay? ‘Cause it’s what you do and it’s what you say.

It starts with one voice breaking through and before you know, A crowd will grow and stand along with…..

you can change the world and share the sun.

The power of one with the strength to be brave. When you stand up to wrong there’s a life you can save.

It starts with one voice that opens the gate. If we just make the choice, we can end all the hate.

The power of one that refuses to wait The power of one.

If you always judge only what you see, Then you’ll never know that there’s more to me.

If you let me in, I could play a part. Put away your doubts, open up your heart.

And it’s easiest to turn around and run, And the night is always darkest just before the rising sun.

You can change the world and share the sun.

The power of one with the strength to be brave. When you stand up to wrong there’s a life you can save.

It starts with one voice that opens the gate. If we just make the choice, we can end all the hate.

The power of one that refuses to wait The power of one.

If we let fear and doubt always shut people out, Then the healing can never begin,

And we’ll never get the chance to let love in.

The power of one with the strength to be brave. When you stand up to wrong there’s a life you can save.

It starts with one voice that opens the gate. If we just make the choice, we can end all the hate.

The power of one that refuses to wait The power of one.

No it’s never too late, The Power of one.

When You Believe

Many nights we prayed with no proof anyone could hear, In our hearts a hopeful song we barely under-stood.

Now we are not afraid although we know there’s much to fear, We were moving mountains long before we knew we could.

There can be miracles when you believe, Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles you can achieve, When you believe somehow you will,

You will when you believe.

In this time of fear when prayer so often proved in vain, Hope seemed like a summer bird too swiftly flown away.

Yet now I’m standing here with heart so full I can’t explain, Seeking faith and speaking words I’d never thought I’d say.

There can be miracles when you believe, Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles you can achieve, When you believe some-how you will,

You will when you believe.

There can be miracles when you believe, Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill.

Who knows what miracles you can achieve, When you believe somehow you will,

You will when you believe. You will when you believe. You will when you believe.
