    Jasper has established himself as amajor talent of his generation. He madehis first public appearance at the age offive, and has since captured the hearts of

    music lovers everywhere with histhrilling virtuosity (The Strad) and hissweet tunefulness edged in melan-choly (Washington Post).

    An acclaimed competition winner,Wood has developed a flourishing repu-tation as a sought-after soloist withmajor orchestras including CanadasMontreal and Toronto Symphonies andas a recital/chamber musician through-out North America and Europe. He has

    been awarded both the coveted SylvaGelber Prize (1996) and the prestigiousVirginia Parker Award (2004) from theCanada Council for the Arts. Mr. Woodhas 8 solo and violin/piano CD record-ings. and is professor of violin at theUniversity of British Columbia.

    Jasper Wood can be heard frequently

    on National Public Radio and CBC-Radio in Canada. His CD recordingshave been met with unanimous criticalacclaim.

    Currently a professor of violin at theUniversity of British Columbia, he per-forms on a 1700 Taft Stradivari violin onloan from the Canada Council for theArts and an anonymous donor.

    April-Rains formerowners court case

    Angels Animal Rescue organizersare inviting anyone whod like to showsupport for their efforts in helpingabused animals, to attend the trial ofBobby Elliot. His court appearancetakes place on Nov. 9, at the MerrittCourthouse, on Voght St. He faces 3

    charges relating to an incident where heallegedly tied his dog, April-Rain, to the

    back of his truck & dragged her for over3km. She sustained serious injuries, andwas taken into care by Angels AnimalRescue Society, nursed back to health &adopted out to a loving family.

    The proceedings are open to the pub-lic & start at 9am.

    BCCLA reports onpolice-related deaths

    As part of its focus on police & theRCMP, the BC Civic Liberties Assoc. hasreleased a report that says BC has morethan twice as many jail and police-involved deaths as Ontario, eventhough Ontario has 3 times the popula-

    tion. With 267 deaths over the last 15years, BC had the largest number ofdeaths per year of any of the 6 provincesand territories for which numbers wereavailable.

    They will be launching this reportwith a series of free public forums: inVictoria, Prince George, Vancouver & inKamloops on Nov. 9th, time/location TBA.
