Keep fit and activeThis helps reduce blood pressure and weight.

Keep good control of blood sugar, cholesterol and anemiaDiabetes is the leading cause of kidney damage.

Monitor blood pressure and reduce it if necessaryHigh blood pressure is the second leading cause of kidney damage.

Eat healthy and keep weight in check• This helps prevent diabetes, heart disease and other

diseases associated with chronic kidney disease. • Reduce dietary intake of salt/sodium.

Do not smoke–don’t start and if you do smoke, try to QUIT

Do not take over-the-counter pills on a regular basis• Regular use of common drugs such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory

drugs (NSAiDs) like ibuprofen are known to cause kidney damage.

Check your kidney function if you have one or more risk factors for developing kidney disease:

• Diabetes• High blood pressure• Obesity• Family history of kidney disease• Ethnicity: African, African American, Asian, Hispanic, Pacific Islander,

Growing to serve you beer construction on Mercy clinic east’s expansion in Janesville began in August. new features will include:

• expanding to 73,000 square feet• A new physical and occupational therapy department featuring a swimex therapy pool• More exam rooms at the Mercy regional eye center• Medical retinology (a new service)• expanded pharmacy area• All-new exterior and landscaping• spacious, two-story lobby with large windows• Fully updated interior esthetics featuring Mercy’s recent art contest winners’

artwork from local grade school and high school students.

Green initiatives include: more natural light and lighting control, low-emission linoleum, recyclable carpet and other materials, and green technology to recycle heat and sunlight.

With this expansion, Mercy expects to add five to six new physicians to Mercy clinic east.
