October has been another windy month in Whitianga, as well as most of NZ, it seems. About average
rainfall has kept the grass growing well and the airfield is looking good after
the recent mowing.
We expected a few more fly in aircraft for Tuia 250 celebrations 18-20 October but the windy weather obviously kept many away. We were fortunate to have fine weather in spite of the wind so those who came in for the celebration had good views of the event and ships in Mercury Bay.
I had the opportunity to fly south to
Wellington, between the very active
fronts, pushing 30 knots of headwind! Not too turbulent and I got a top view
of the overnight snow which had fallen
on the Ruahine Ranges as I made my first
refuel stop at Waipukurau and enjoyed
meeting CFI Ross Macdonald who
dropped me off at the Best Pie Shop. Continuing on to Martinborough
enabled me to utilise the day well before landing in Wellington as the
wind began to decay late in the day. Tuia 250 Fleet at anchor Wharekaho

Douglas Rowe popped in, from Cairns, and enjoyed becoming
recurrent in the RV12 while here, becoming another new member
in the process.
Departure Lounge Cafe
Closed until further Notice ….
Notices from committee:
Hangarage 12 T hangars & 6 large hangars plans have been lodged with
the TCDC for consent so expect construction to commence in
November. Whoopee!
New Taxiway signs have been placed to assist with entry into the
refuelling / apron area. A is now closest to the Clubhouse and B is further out
by the hangars to the east. C is the furthest away from the Clubhouse, but the
first one when leaving the landing runway 22.
C should only be used for entry to the hangars associated with this taxiway as
soft ground off this entry, towards the Clubhouse, could cause aircraft to get bogged.

New fill has been placed along the northwest edge of the 04 runway
up to the intersection with 16/34. This will form a new taxiway once it
has been compacted, allowing more convenient access to the 22
runway without disrupting aircraft flow by backtracking on the runway.
TCDC District Plan Variation 2 has been published.

MBA flew 13.4 hours in October. Good to see it flying while the
weather has been reasonable between the weather bombs that passed
our way in windy October.
