Crooked Creek Food Pantry Covenant Community Church will collect hygiene items for Crooked Creek Food Pantry during the season of Lent. There will be a collection box in the church foyer. CCFP is a client choice food pantry that respects the personal dignity of each client. Eligible families and individuals can shop at CCFP once a month for the items they need and prefer. In addition to food, families and individuals can select from a variety of other necessities – such as soap, toothpaste, toilet tissue, and diapers – when available. SNAP (formerly “food stamps”) cannot be used to purchase these items. Long-term goals of CCFP include providing nutritional information to help clients make healthier food choices and connecting them with educational opportunities and programs that may assist them in moving out of the cycle of poverty. Peace Center for Forgiveness & Reconciliation “The Center provides pathways to peace for young people, particularly African immigrants, through its PEACE ACADEMY, a program that offers conflict resolution training, character building and mentoring for caring adults. The Center also provides support and fosters healing for young people who have experienced the pain of injustice or other traumatic events in their lives through its JOURNEY TO FREEDOM PROGRAM.” Fast-a-Meal for a Cause What should I give up this Lent? Donate to the Lent Appeal. Giving something up for Lent is a Catholic tradition, but lots of people use this self-denial as an opportunity to serve Christ, by raising money and helping people living in poverty too. A LENT APPEAL (special collection) will be taken up on the first Sunday in April to be given to a selected community organization. Care Partners will be asked to nominate an organization (501 C) of their choice to receive our sacrificial offering. Personal Spiritual Growth Walk to Jerusalem: A Lenten Journey Beginning on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, our church community will “begin” a symbolic walk (12 million steps) that begins at Covenant and “ends” in the Holy Land (Jerusalem). We encourage all Care Partners to embark on this mission to become more physically active while also fostering emotional health and spiritual growth. Each registered Care Partner will track his/her steps/miles for a set period of time and add them to the total, trying to walk to Jerusalem by Friday, April 10. We will be divided into teams of men, women, and children led by Jenice & Larry Dunlap and Leslie & Brandon Woodson. More detailed information will be provided in the Narthex on Sunday, February 16. BECOME MORE PHYSICALLY FIT & SPIRITUALLY WHOLE BY EASTER! Community Outreach on the Lenten Journey Make Your Way at Covenant Community Church Lent at Covenant begins on Ash Wednesday. We will gather in the sanctuary on February 26 at 12:00 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. to begin our Annual Lenten journey. With the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday, we remember we are dust and to dust we shall return. This act of repentance and remembrance will lead us through the wilderness to the cross and eventually to the empty grave on Easter. Join the Covenant community on this Lenten journey. Throughout the season of Lent, Pastor Wallace will be preaching on the theme, “BROKEN Made NEW “. We all know the nagging feeling of a broken fingernail – it snags your clothing, scratches and irritates throughout the day. The scrawling fracture in your windshield distorts your vision and keeps you from getting where you need to be. Brokenness hinders our lives. In small sort of ways, a crack can be a nuisance; in big, everyday sort of ways, the brokenness in our lives can also leave us feeling broken into scattered pieces. We all know what it’s like to feel fractured, torn apart, shattered. Though it is hard to face, and even harder to admit to others, we have all been broken. We might try to hide these fissures, but this Lenten Season, we invite you to hear the stories, and to be comforted by God’s experiences with brokenness. God knows the feeling of broken trust, bonds broken among our beloved friends and family, even the disarray of shattered dreams. As we journey through God’s brokenness, we discover the power of God’s resurrection found within what is broken. We discover the hope God has for us, for the whole world to break free from the tomb, experience the promise of Easter - "made NEW!" We hope you will join us! Ash Wednesday, February 26, 2020 to Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020 Sundays at 10:00 a.m. Made NEW!
