• Samford is shooting 40.6 percent from the fl oor, 26.9 percent from the three-point arc and 59.5 percent from the free throw line.

• Opponents are out-rebounding the Bulldogs by an average margin of +10.0 boards per game (43.0-33.0).

MEMPHIS VERSUS THE SOUTHERNCONFERENCE • The Tigers have a 19-6 all-time record versus

Southern Conference (SoCon) foes. • Memphis has played Chattanooga (9-2), Da-

vidson (0-1), Furman (2-0), Samford (3-1), The Citadel (3-2), UNC Greensboro (1-0) and Wof-ford (1-0).

• The last time the Tigers played a SoCon oppo-nent was 2008-09 when they faced Chattanooga in the quarterfi nal round of the 2008 Puerto Rico Shootout. Memphis posted an 83-71 win over the Mocs on Nov. 20, 2008.

Game #2 • B4A Opening Game: Memphis vs. Samford • Page 3

Page 4: Memphis Basketball Game Notes vs Samford - Nov. 17, 2012

IT’S AN NCAA TITLE RING THING • When Memphis and Samford take the fl oor Sat-

urday, both coaching staffs can claim an NCAA championship ring.

• For the Tigers, the staff member with an NCAA title ring is Josh Pastner. The Memphis head coach won his ring as a player on the 1996-97 Arizona team that took the 1997 NCAA title.

• In the 1997 NCAA championship game, Ari-zona defeated Kentucky 84-79 in overtime. A player on that 1996-97 Kentucky team was cur-rent Samford assistant coach Scott Padgett.

• Padgett is the Bulldogs’ staff member with an NCAA title. Padgett helped lead Kentucky to the 1998 national championship.

FORMER PAC-10 RIVALS MEET AGAIN • Saturday’s game features an old Pac-10 (now

Pac-12) Conference rivalry between Memphis head coach Josh Pastner (Arizona) and Sam-ford assistant coach Yasir Rosemond (Oregon).

• Pastner was a player, staff member and assistant coach at Arizona from 1996-2008. Rosemond played at Oregon from 1997-99 and served on the Ducks staff from 2005-10.

• In the seasons in which both were at their re-spective schools, Pastner held a narrow 6-4 edge in those meetings.

THE GOLDEN (EAGLE) TIE THAT BINDS • Although they didn’t work together in Milwau-

kee, Memphis assistant coach Aki Collins and Samford head coach Bennie Seltzer both have connections to Marquette.

• The previous four seasons (2008-12), Col-lins served as an assistant on Buzz Williams’

staff. Collins helped lead the Golden Eagles to four-straight, 20-win seasons (96-45 record), four-consecutive NCAA Tournaments and two NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearances.

• The two seasons (2006-07, 2007-08) prior to Collins’ time in Milwaukee, Seltzer was a mem-ber of Tom Crean’s staff at Marquette. In his two years with the Golden Eagles, Seltzer helped the program earn two NCAA Tournament berths.

FEDEXFORUM NEWBIES • Samford is the second of six teams that will

make their fi rst trips to FedExForum this year. • North Florida was the fi rst FedExForum newbie

this season when it played on the Tigers’ home-court Nov. 12 (81-66 Memphis win).

• The other four visiting programs that will play for the fi rst time in FedExForum this season are Ohio Dec. 5, Oral Roberts Dec. 28, Loyola (Md.) Dec. 30 and Harvard Jan. 19.

• Last year, the Tigers hosted four FedExForum newbies and posted a 3-1 record in those con-tests. Memphis had wins over Belmont, Robert Morris and Xavier and a loss to Murray State.

FedExForumThe Home of The Tigers

The 2012-13 season marks the ninth for the Tigers in their home arena, FedExForum, which offi cially opened in September, 2004. Lo-cated just a few feet off Beale Street on historic Highway 61, FedEx-Forum rises to extend the heart of the Memphis entertainment district. Memphis plays all of its 2012-13 home contests in the 18,400-seat arena, which served as the host site for the 2012 Conference USA Tournaments (men/women). FedExForum also hosted the 2005-09 Conference USA Tournaments, 2009 NCAA Men’s South Regional and 2010 NCAA Women’s South Regional. At 135 feet high, FedExForum provides a new backdrop for historic Beale Street. The 805,850 square-feet arena, covering 13.8 acres, features fi ve levels as well as state-of-the-art locker rooms and facilities for sports teams, as well as an exceptional dining and enter-tainment experiences for its patrons.

A MEMPHIS STARTING FIVE • For the fi rst time in over 20 years, the Tigers put

a starting fi ve on the fl oor all from the city of Memphis.

• The starting fi ve from the Bluff City was Tarik Black, Chris Crawford, Ferrakohn Hall, Joe Jackson and Adonis Thomas in Memphis’ Nov. 12 game versus North Florida.

• Prior to this year’s season opener, the last time the Tigers placed an all-Memphis starting fi ve on the fl oor in a season opener was 1987-88. In that year’s season opener versus Jackson State, the all-Memphis starting fi ve were Rodney Douglas, Sylvester Gray, Marvin Alexander, Dwight Boyd and Elliot Perry.

• In overall games, the last time an all-Memphis starting fi ve played for the Tigers was on “Se-nior Day” in 1994-95 season. That game’s (ver-sus Dayton) starting fi ve were Justin Wimmer, Marcus Nolan, Lorenzen Wright, Leon Mitchell and Jason Fox.

• The Tigers’ all-time record in which an all-Memphis lineup started is 134-41 (.766 winning percentage; includes 2012-13).

• The most-successful, all-Memphis starting lineup was the one consisting of Baskerville Holmes-Keith Lee-William Bedford-Vincent Askew-Andre Turner. That all-Memphis start-ing fi ve went 28-3 in the 1984-85 season.

• For a complete historical list of all-Memphis starting fi ves in the program’s history, look at the box on page 6. (Credit to Memphis Tigers basketball historian and radio color analyst Matt Dillon)

MEMPHIS RANKED IN PRESEASON POLLS • The Tigers were ranked in both national pre-

• It was the eighth time in the last nine seasons Memphis had been ranked in the preseason.

• In its history, Memphis has been ranked a total of 20 times in the preseason polls and the fol-lowing shows that:
