IREAD fulfills PL 109 to ensure that students can read before grade four curriculum If a student doesnt pass the IREAD 3 they will be retained in third grade Exemptions: Students who have previously been retained two times prior to4th grade. Students with disabilities whose Case Conference Committee has determined that promotion is appropriate English Language Learners whose Individual Learning Plan committee has determined that promotion is appropriate.

Third grade students will be taking the IREAD3 test and will then be scored by the State of Indiana This is in addition to the normally given ISTEP+ Paper Pencil given March 17-19 Results are expected to be given back to the schools in early April. 3. The IREAD 3 Assessment Specifically assess Foundational reading standards through grade 3. Word Recognition, Fluency and Vocabulary Development 25-35% Comprehension and Analysis of Nonfiction and Information Text 30-40% Comprehension and Analysis of Literary Text 30-40% 4. March 3-12 Written Applications Math- Story Problems that require the student to apply math skills to grade-level word problems and explain how they came to their answer. ELA- Reading will include short passages and stories at grade level followed by comprehension questions. These questions will require students to answer using complete sentences to demonstrate thorough knowledge of reading concepts. (Readers Constructed Response) Writing will include writing prompts that require the students to write several pages on a predetermined topic. This will assess the students ability to use writing skills to communicate an idea. Science (gr. 4) and Social Studies (gr. 5) Both content questions and application of knowledge during applied skills and multiple choice tests. 5. April 28 May 9 Multiple Choice Multiple Choice tests that include questions based on the Indiana State Standards for each subject area. All grades will take the test online! 6. Written Application Student tests are scanned into a computer and a person scores based on a rubric. Multiple Choice Scored by a computer. Scores expected in late May 8. Classroom assessments are given in a format similar to ISTEP Emphasis placed on how to effectively explain thinking Practice writing to a prompt Jump Start 11. Test taking strategies are reviewed Acuity is taken 3 times before ISTEP Students will be given a testing survival kit this year The ISTEP Lady is frequently mentioned and is coming for a visit! 12. Make attendance a priority, avoid making doctors appointments during the test times and vacations during the test dates. Practice academic skills & test taking strategies see handout. Help your child get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast the whole week of the test. Encourage your child to do his/her personal best. 13.
