A MESSAGE FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
As March 2020 rolls in the OCMC continues to keep busy. During the month of February, we had several events take place. On February 15th, the Daytona 500 party, the Temecula Wine Cruise and the Whittier Car Show. Despite the weather this did not dampen the participation or spirit of the OCMC. At our general meeting we had SCCA / IDA member Ed Terwilliger as our guest speaker. March does not slow down. On March 11th we have our general meeting with another great guest speaker. On March 14th, we have our first ever cruise to the Reagan Library! This will be a joint cruise with the SouthBay Mustang Club. On March 21st the Sea Cruisers will be departing on their Mexican Riviera cruise. That cruise ship has no idea what it is in for! Teri, Donna and their team will have that group having a blast on the cruise. The OCMC will once again be selecting charities to contribute to this year. Our Charity coordinator will be asking for three volunteers from our membership to be part of the selection committee at the May general meeting. Please refer to the Charity donation rules on the OCMC website. If you have any questions please let us know. Membership is closing in on the 500th member. Who will it be? Better yet who will be the member to get the 500th member? Lots of incentives to be recruiting new members. From hats and t-shirts to our great embroidered jackets. Keep your eyes out for other upcoming events. We are looking at another 1st time cruise you will not want to miss. Yes, it is only March but we are already working on the Christmas party event. We have our 1st time cruise to the Tustin Ford for an All Ford Cars & Coffee on May 9th. Our fliers are out for the OCMC June car show at the Enderle Center. The 2020 board is working hard to make this another great year for the OCMC. Keep in mind we are always looking for volunteers to help out. Whether at one of our car shows or helping out on a cruise or poker run. Please keep your eyes posted on our club website ( www.ocmustangclub.org ), the Events page in our Newsletter as well as our Facebook page for announcements.

Monthly Honored Veteran
This Month’s Honored Veteran Tim Mehlhoff Prior to graduating from high school in Centerville, Ohio, my stepfather advised me to join the U.S Navy
Reserve. At that time the government was using a mandatory enrollment draft system into the armed forces.
Young men had to register for the draft and if you were lucky to have a high number it was unlikely you
would ever have to serve in the armed forces, unless you decided to join in order to get out of the house.
Getting drafted usually meant you would most likely go into the Army. Not that this was necessarily bad but
not everyone wanted to join the Army. Because the Vietnam War was still going on, my stepfather thought if
I was drafted and got into the Army, I may have to see this war up close. My draft number was 294 a high
number but my step father still thought I should join the Navy anyway. He said if you do happen to go to
Vietnam at least you will be on a ship not on dry land. Even so I still like the idea of being on dry land!
So, I joined the Navy and was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia on board the destroyer USS New (DD 818) in
1972. Don’t let the name fool you this ship was not new. It was commissioned in 1946. I served 2 years
active duty and later 6 years in the reserve. USS New was sold to South Korea and renamed ROKS Taejon
and was decommissioned in 2001. Nobody knows what happened to the ship after that but I would imagine
it was broken up for scrap or it may have been towed out to sea and sunk.
While on the ship as enlisted I worked as a Boiler Technician, then out on deck painting and scraping then
later I worked myself into the ship’s office as a YN3 performing administrative duties.
Although, during the time I was on the USS New I never went to Vietnam or in a combat situation and never
felt I was in danger, I am proud to have been in the U.S Navy and served this great county we call home.
Shortly after completing my active duty I moved out to California where my father encouraged me to start
college. I graduated from San Jose State and with a BA in Social Science and then started working in El
Segundo with Rockwell International which later became The Boeing Company doing contract and proposal
work. After retiring from Boeing, I went to work for the Navy at China Lake then the Defense Contract
Management Agency (DCMA). During that time, I earned my MBA but I wanted to do something else.
Currently I’m an independent insurance broker primarily for life insurance and disability. I love helping
people live better lives with insurance as part of their financial wellness and estate planning.
I have been a member and loyal supporter of the Orange County Mustang Club for 5 years. I used to have
a 1971 and 1989 Mustang but sadly the 1971 was totaled in a car accident and the 1989 caught fire
behind a 24-Hour Fitness building and the fire department totaled this car! Currently not driving a Mustang
but I still plan on having another one! Mustang cars are great just as the people who drive them.
I feel very honored to be selected for the March 2020 Veteran. Usually when I see a reserved parking
space up front it’s not for me. I feel very humble I only wish I was parking a Mustang and not a Camry!

Ford made it known today that the front trunk (frunk) of its full-electric Mustang Mach-E can be
filled with just about anything.
The frunk is built to be a cooler, and it's equipped with a plastic liner and a drainage hole.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E goes on sale late this year. "Anyway, like I was sayin', shrimp is the fruit of the sea. You can barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, sauté it . . . Pan fried, deep fried, stir fried. There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That—that's about it.”
Well, Bubba, turns out there’s one more you can add to the list: Mustang Mach-E shrimp.
Ford has publicized that the frunk, or front trunk, of its all-new EV, the Mach-E, is built to be used as a cooler. It has a drainage hole at the bottom and a plastic liner, and with 4.8 cubic feet—or 36 gallons—of storage, it’s big enough to hold a carry-on-size suitcase or 1000 chicken wings, according to the manufacturer. Ford released images of the Mach-E's frunk filled with shrimp on ice, and another of it topped off with chicken wings, expanding what we thought was possible with the front trunk. "Just fill the front trunk with ice and beverages and cruise right up to your tailgate," the press release reads.
Unfortunately, you’ll have to wait until late 2020, once deliveries begin, to roll up to a tailgate party with your frunk filled with, well, it seems that you can fill it with whatever you want.

On February 16th, the annual Outlaw Daytona 500 Party took place
at my house. Perfect weather greeted the multitude of Hot Rod
Crazies who descended to the wilds of East Yorba Linda to take
over my neighborhood. The race itself was called off after a few laps
due to rain. Does anyone care ? Of course not, this party is about
getting together with friends. In fact, this year was so special, that
AWARDS were handed out:
