CONE MANDREL

The water dipper is often an open jam tin with a handle and a series of small holes punched into the bottom so as to let a slow, steady stream of water flow out.

The purpose of the dipper is to control the fire by allowing precise cooling of the perimeter of the fire to prevent it from spreading.
