Today is a big day for Mellie.
She is going to start preschool.
“Welcome, Mellie! Let me show you everything,”says Mimi, the school teacher.
“Do you want to join us?” asks little Ben. Mellie is happy. She thinks the children are really nice.
The children sing a welcome song.
Mellie sits close to Mimiso that she can see and hear her well.
“Mellie can only hear with her cochlear implants,”explains Mimi.
“They are her special ears.”
Mimi shows the children how Mellie’s cochlear implants work.
Today the children are making a cardboard doll. Mimi explains every step to Mellie.
Mellie learns many new words.
Mellie tells Mimi when shedoesn’t understand something. Mimi repeats everythinguntil Mellie understands.
Mimi always speaks clearly.
It’s music time!
The children dance to the music.Mellie loves it!
Mellie gets the dessert after lunch. “May I have some fruit, please?”she asks the cook.
Mellie is proudthat she did this all on her own.
In the afternoonthe children play on the playground. Mellie hears many different sounds:
birds chirping,children laughing,and a dog barking.
“Preschool is great!”Mellie tells her mother.
“I can’t wait to go back tomorrow!”
