BRIEF HISTORY OF MELBOURNE • Melbourne was founded on the Yarra River in

1835.• Within a year the township of Melbourne began

to grow along the banks of the Yarra River. • Melbourne boomed in the 1850's as a result of

the gold rush in close by northern regions.• After the gold rush , Melbourne boomed and

welcomed a huge flood of migrants, hence cementing its future as a multi – cultural city .

Being less than 200 years old Melbourne is one of the worlds most modern capital cities ,

and still embraces technological advancements of the 21st century .
