8Combined Bending Moment and Compressive LoadsCombined cases can be
checked using the equation M + P 1Mmax PmaxWhere M is the applied
bending moment, Mmax is the maximum allowable bending moment. P
isthe applied axial compressive load and Pmax is the maximum
allowable axial load at a particulareffective length.E.g. A
vertical Megashor leg with effective length of 6 metres in the X-X
axis and 3 metres in the Y-Yaxis is bolted directly to a header
beam at the top and has a Megashor jack at the base. A
frameanalysis program indicates an axial compressive load in the
section of 620 kN and a bendingmoment in the X-X axis of 30 kNm.
There is no bending moment in the Y-Y axis.From information given
by frame analysis:M = 30 kNm,P = 620 kNXX axis check. Using
Megashor graph 1.1.6.1. with 10mm eccentricity the maximum
allowable axialload with an effective length of 6 metres (Pmax) =
