ABSTRACT
This small sampling of earthworms from the Province of Saskatchewan increases the reported number ofspecies from one to six: Aporrectodea rosea, Ap. trapezoides, Ap. tuberculata (original report), Dendrodrilus rubidus,Eisenia foetida and Lumbricus terrestris. All species in the province are exotic European Lumbricidae.
INTRODUCTION
Until now there has been only one speciesdocumented in the literature from Saskatchewan(Gates, 1972). In that paper, Gates reportedAporrectodea tuberculata (as Allolobophora tuber-culata) from two locations on the Indian HeadExperimental Farm (18-6-14-1 and 0-1-4) and onecollection site in Saskatoon (2-0-5). That report byGates also included details of other closely relatedspecies, viz. Aporrectodea trapezoides, turgida andlonga: yet no specimens of these species were reportedfrom Saskatchewan.
During late September 1994, we bad theopportunity to visit central Saskatchewan to attend aGreen Colleges Conference. While there we undertooksome collecting and examined the holdings of theProvincial Museum in Regina. There were only threespecimens in the museum collections at that time, andthey were in poor condition.
During my early travels with SchneiderNational Carriers Inc., I was again able to visit
Saskatchewan and make additional observations on theearthworms present.
Most collection records include countyreferences, but Saskatchewan is one of the few politicalareas in North America which does not have counties. The location of the province and collection sites in theprovince of Saskatchewan are illustrated in Figures 1and 2.

RESULTS
During September 1994, the authors obtainedthe following specimens:
Fort QU' Appelle, 172 Company Street. digging inthe garden. 25 Sep 94. J.W. Reynolds, M.N. Khan and JerryWhiting. collectors.
AB of the earthworm species reported fromSaskatchewan are exotic European members of thefamily Lumbricidae which have been introduced inrecent centuries by settlers (see Reynolds, 1994 and1995). These species are also among the dozen or socosmopolitan members of the family which arecurrently to be found on all continents of the globe.
Reports of earthworms from the neighbouringprovinces of Alberta (Scbeu and McLean. 1993;Reynolds & Clapperton, 1996). and Manitoba werelimited as well until recently. The paucity ofearthworm records in Saskatchewan is primarily dueto the lack of collecting and recording specimens.New initiatives through the Worm Watch Program®and others will enable us to get a more completepicture of the earthworm distribution across Canada, particularly in western Canada. Reports ofearthworms from the neighbouring provinces ofAlberta ( Reynolds & Clapperton, 1996; Scbeu andMcLean, 1993). and Manitoba were limited as welluntil recently.
