Jef Jansen established the Lim- burg Ceramic Workshop Cen- tre (Keramisch Werkcentrum Limburg). With his ceramics atelier, he seeks to pique the in- terest of youngsters in the art of pottery-making. This is where you can go for ceramics work- shops and courses under the guidance of an experienced ceramicist, while experienced ceramicists can come here to work independently and use the professional atelier. A variety of events ensure that nobody needs to be bored in Meeuwen-Gruitrode! Horse riding, a village feast, a medieval knight’s feast, ... and a Christmas market in the shade of the Gruitrode Com- mandry. The archaeological park ‘de Rie -ten’ in Wijshagen leads you tothe Celtic tombs that were un-covered here. Many of the findshave been given a place in theGallo-Roman Museum in Ton-geren.

The Commandry of the Ger-man Order of Knights in Gruit -rode will transport you back tothe Renaissance. In the 16th cen-tury, a manor-house and a farm-stead were built next to thecastle. This commandry wasone of the 12 that were groupedaround the main commandry inAlden Biesen.

The church architecture in ourborough paints an evolutionfrom Romanesque throughGothic to modern architecture.Every church has an uniquecharacter.

There are four watermills thatstill lie along the A-beek: theNeermolen and the Hoogmolenin Ellikom and the Dorpermolenand the Beren heide molen inMeeuwen.The valley of the A-beek is agent ly rolling, rural and greenarea with a typical herbal flora.

The Tobacco museum presentsyou with the rich history of thetobacco industry. An extensivecollection of tobacco jars, to-bacco boxes, smoking chairs,cigar holders, pipe holders, ash-trays, tobacco packs andposters ... you can see all ofthese in the museum!

In Het Boenderbos, LeoCamps’s sculpture garden, youcan relax while admiring thevarious bronze sculptures. Hislove for nature and the worldaround as well as human rela-tions find expression in each ofhis creations.
