Hello everyone My name is Clare Marie Dickson and I would like to welcome you to the first edition of the Practice Education News. I have recently taken up post as the Practice Education Co- ordinator and am both hugely excited and privileged to be leading the team as nurse education undergoes one of the most significant changes in recent years. Nursing and Midwifery practice is very different from practice a decade ago and we know it is set to change even further in the next ten years and beyond. It is crucial that nurses are equipped to deliver high quality, safe and effective care and that relies on the education & training they receive. The NMC is currently re- viewing the Education Framework which proposes a new model for supporting students in practice. It is anticipated that this will be implemented in 2018. We will have more information about this in future newsletters. In the meantime, may I take this opportunity on behalf of the team to thank you all for your ongoing support & for the significant contribution you make to the student learning experience. Practice Education News Meet the Practice Education Team
SEHSCT launched its first Midwifery Careers Day programme on the 14th November 2017 for students from South Eastern Regional College (SERC) and seventeen local schools. This was a new initiative to
support work experience and future workforce planning. The students had the opportunity to experience
„A Day in the Life of a Midwife‟ and engage in practical skills such as abdominal palpation & basic life
support. Students also had the opportunity to engage with and inform the production of the first
interactive Midwifery Careers E-Magazine and meet with a range of professionals from practice, education
& the volunteer service. The success of this event will inspire future events for all fields of nursing!!
What Did Students Say?
“The careers day helped me understand how I as an
individual, in the future, could care for pregnant women
with compassion, patience, love & gentleness.”
(Friends School, Lisburn)
“The chance to ask questions has given me a clearer
mind-set for my future plans, and to hear the answers to
other questions I hadn't even thought to ask was
informative also.” (SERC)
“Many thanks for arranging this midwifery information
day. I can confidently say that it was beneficial to each
and every one of us attending.” (SERC)
