Through the generosity of Paul Fernstrum (BSME 1965) and his sons Sean ‘90 and Todd ‘92 and their families two new high-tech classrooms were dedicated in February 2013: the “Fernstrum

Family Adaptable Classroom” and the “Fernsturm Family Classroom”

Faculty Awards Dr. Mahesh Gupta, Professor, has

been elected a fellow of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE). He is the first faculty member from Michigan Tech to be named fellow of SPE.


Faculty Awards Dr. Scott A Miers, Assistant Professor,

has been selected a finalist for the Michigan Tech Distinguished Teaching Award in the Assistant Professor /Lecturer/Professor of Practice Category

Dr. Kazuya Tajiri, Assistant Professor, has been selected a finalist for the Michigan Tech Distinguished Teaching Award in the Assistant Professor /Lecturer/Professor of Practice Category


New Faculty Dr. Rush D. Robinett was hired

as the Henes Chair Professor in Energy Systems. He came to us after 25 years at Sandia National Laboratory. He held various high-level leadership positions at Sandia. His research area includes controls with application to microgrids, robotics, and aerospace.

Colleen L. Jones-Cervantes, BSME 1983, Vice President for Product Supply & Trading for Chevron with global responsibilities for all non-crude oil feed stocks to Chevron refining system.

Anthony F. Raimondo, BSME 1962, Chairman & CEO of Behlen Manufacturing Company, Columbus, NE. Behlen manufactures pre-fabricated buildings, grain bins, silos, etc.

Donald G. Wheatley, BSME 1962, MSEM1963, retired founder and president of Extang Corp., which makes the famous aluminum frame truck bed covers (tonneau cover).
