The MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network is an environmental, non governmental and non profitableorganization (NGO),

active since 1990,

for the protection of the natural and cultural wealth of the Mediterranean

and more particularly for:

Theprotection of the coasts andsea, thesustainable managementofcoastal zones, and theconservation ofbiodiversity

Renewable sources andenergy savings, for theprotection of the global climate

A rational water resources managementandwater savings

Asustainable tourism development

Thepromotion ofsustainabilityon a local, national,Mediterranean and European level

A euro-Mediterranean cooperation based on equality andrespect for cultural variety, the co-existance and dialoguebetween civilizations.

The MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network amongst its actions:

Compiles reports with proposals and takes initiatives for sustainable development on a local, national andinternational level.

Participates in the implementation of national and international programs that deal with climate protection,water resources management, and total management and protection of coastal zones.

Delivers alternative policy models for environmental and social matters

Pressurizes entities and authorities for the promotion and implementation of good examples and solutionsregarding sustainable development

Works togetherwith public authorities, local governments, research and scientific institutions and other socialpartners

Encourages a change in the way of thinking of authorities and citizens on a local, national and internationallevel, towards sustainability

Promotes the active participations of citizens and especially young people through volunteering andcampaigning on a Mediterranean level

Works with local and international entities regarding the sustainable management of natural areas as well asregarding their sustainable development and long-term survival

The MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network collaborates with many European and Mediterranean NGOs, participates orhas contributed to the formation of international networks, and finally has organized international meetingswhich aim towards a cross-boarder collaboration for the Mediterranean.

The MEDITERRANEAN SOS Network is a non profit organization, and as a result, for the implementation of its actions, ituses multiple funding sources so it can remain independent and therefore effective.

In order to ensure resources for the funding of the MEDITERRANEAN SOS Networks actions, a clear process is followedbased on the ethics and policy regulations of the organization.
